Director @amycleach has called for deaf actors to be cast in roles where deafness "wasn’t the writer’s intention" as she announces a new Christmas show at @LeedsPlayhouse, which will see a deaf performer take a leading role. Click to read 👇 thestage.co.uk/news/leeds-pl…

This. As per usual Sarah is very wise. The silence from other artistic leaders and supposed allies to disable artists on this issue has been overwhelming and so disappointing.

Previews done for #TheGifting - what an absolute pleasure it’s been to work with this gorgeous #AccessTeam and the amazing folks @LEEDS_2023 and @SlungLow There are loads of #captioned, #BSLinterpreted and #AudioDescribed shows but this is the only time we’ll all be together!

The Requiem/After Tears double bill is utterly beautiful 💔
I'm very happy to say that ALL Opera North performances for the rest of this season (that's The Pearl Fishers and Requiem/After Tears) have pre-recorded audio description. Great recording with @VickyAckroyd and Michele Jackson. #access @Opera_North

From the Jeremy Vine Show to The Telegraph front page, the British media has unleashed a new era of vilifying disabled benefit claimants. “Should we leave the disabled to starve to death?” is just legitimate debate. My col. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

I’m sure this had the best intentions as an act of friendship but… it’s classic non-disabled gaze. A wheelchair is the dignified way to move when you can’t walk, not a horrible thing to escape. Being lifted out of it and carried makes most of us (not all!) wince at the thought.
Beautiful. Kevin Sinfield carried Rob Burrow over the finish line at the end of the first Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 🥹

Looking forward to creating the #AudioDescription for this!!! It’s an evocative, short black and white film of 8 dancers, in pairs, wearing black, dancing in Kirkstall Abbey.
👀 More peeks behind the scenes on today's Requiem promo shoot @KirkstallAbbey with @PhoenixLeeds! These dancers will be joined @GrandTheatreLS1 next month by @Jazzart_Dance, our Chorus and Orchestra + four guest soloists, all for @Leeds_2023 🙌 Book » bit.ly/ON-Requiem

And it’s such a fantastic bit of kit!! Really easy to work!
Very happy to be loaning out my little mobile audio description kit to @darkhorse_uk today for their performance tonight of #Unit21 described by the brilliant @VickyAckroyd. Any small theatres wanting to provide AD, do get in touch. Look how small it is! 😃

Driver only trains, unstaffed stations, and no ramps, leaves disabled passengers facing restrictions at one in 10 railway stations. It means that disabled people are treated as as the lowest priority. having to endure appalling constant service failures. theguardian.com/society/2023…

Epic night audio describing #TheAwakening for @LEEDS_2023 Apart from the incredible acts (and special thanks to @testamentonline and @denmarccreary for leaving a pause for me to describe them!) but the care and support for us as access providers was utterly wonderful. Thank you!

Not going to do a big 2022 round-up but I will say that this was my favourite thing I wrote this year (and I loved hearing all your thoughts about the series). theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

Why not make your New Year's resolution to always add alt text image description to your tweets? It's a little thing that makes the world of difference to Visually impaired and blind people like me
