The security camera didn’t record who they were or what they took.
An attempt is the knock on the door, and a compromise is someone getting inside. The logs show the knocks. They don’t always show who got in.

Still on examining web alerts, I worked on connecting these alerts to possible risks and identifying the logs needed to investigate them.

For today's learning, I examined a provided web-request log to identify possible attack attempts. From the image attached, we can see that the first request showed a possible SQL injection pattern, the other contained a script-like markup

We'd still need evidence like authentication records, etc., to better understand what happened. And this is why an ordinary attempt does not in itself prove compromise, as detailed evidence needs to be examined to prove the actual intention.

💡 My Key Takeaway
Network analysis isn't just packets; it's about reading the evidence, understanding what it means, and not making statements you can't substantiate.
Follow the traffic. Examine the evidence. Understand the limits.

Observe the indicators. Collect the evidence. Investigate before concluding.
🔎Cybersecurity is a field that demands expertise and continuous learning to stay one step ahead of the evolving threat landscape.

- HTTP: Saw a request to the web and the corresponding server's '301 Moved Permanently' response.
💡 My Key Takeaway
Network traffic analysis enables me to gain an understanding of how devices communicate with each other.

Last week, I learnt about identifying suspicious emails. Today, I attended a class on phishing email analysis using Microsoft Sentinel.
It's interesting to move from spotting red flags in an email to using security tools to investigate them.

Before an AI agent starts changing records, sending messages or preparing payments, here's how to decide exactly what it is allowed to do.
List the systems it needs, the information it can read and the actions it can take. If its job is to prepare a payment, it does not automatically need permission to release the funds. Enforce those limits in the tools and connected systems. A written instruction alone is not an access control.
For consequential actions, build an approval step that shows the person what will actually happen. A payment review should expose details such as the recipient and amount, rather than asking someone to approve an unexplained action.
Keep an activity record of tool calls, approvals and outcomes. Protect those records and avoid collecting sensitive information that you do not need.
Also decide who can stop further agent activity and how the team will recover from an incorrect change. Some actions cannot simply be undone, which makes the earlier approval especially important.
These controls belong in the workflow before it reaches production. Review them when the agent gains a new task or connection.

Lessons:
🔹 Normalize timestamps first
🔹 Compare against a baseline
🔹 Order of events can disprove the obvious story
🔹 Say what you can’t see

From examining login records to analysing network traffic and spotting red flags in suspicious emails, this week has been a lot of learning.
Today's lesson covered incident response, and a big cybersecurity lesson is to stop before acting.
