I wrote about the emotionally authentic depiction of teenage grief in TALK TO ME and how the film has helped me find empathy for my younger self

I've always wondered about the white subway tile that's used so extensively in Jarman's set design; I interviewed Mark Kermode about the 'Devils' re-release, and this is what he told me:
Derek Jarmen’s sets are the biggest winner of the new restoration. I’ve seen this movie before a couple of times, but seeing this new transfer on the big screen I almost said “Oh my god” out loud a couple of times when it cut to an establishing shot of the sets.

Trauma recovery is going to ask us to have high standards & strong boundaries-- which can be rough for survivors who have been conditioned to believe we deserve neither. Turns out we're going to have to start before we believe the new thing. Lucky us.

AI is more and more overtly acting like a mafiosi shakedown of the rest of the economy + governments: "See, we made agents. Wouldn't want the agents to ...trouble... you, right? Well give us more money then."
Exactly. We have companies that have unleashed malware and viruses world wide, whose CEOs should be arrested and prosecuted, who have somehow been able to change this crime into a marketing gimmick instead.

Unlike most thinkers of his day Marx knew the real symbolic power and meaning of architecture. each building makes legible political and material forces and relationships within class societies. When they burn something else always burns too
The bourgeoisie of the whole world, which looks complacently upon the wholesale massacre after the battle, is convulsed by horror at the desecration of brick and mortar! - Karl Marx, The Civil War in France

A lot of ppl misunderstand this: commodity fetishism refers to a phenomenon in which the value of products on the market appears as a property inherent to them obscuring the social relations which actually produced it and makes people sexually aroused and cum at the thought of it

Conservatives complain about the BIG STATE but they don't hate the state. They just hate when the state is used to help people, especially the poor & vulnerable. But when the state protects assets, builds prisons, arms cops, rescues banks & enforces rent, they love the state.

Talk about a truly hidden gem! Sandra Huller’s feature debut and already such assuredness. Based on the same possession case as Exorcism of Emily Rose but done in a cinema verite style that’s far more effective and harrowing. No frills, or genre staples, but filled with anxiety.

This right here is why an actually competent fascist government in 2028 or 2032 is basically a foregone conclusion.
JVL of The Bulwark: The things I like, you could round up all of the supporters in America and fit them in this room. What we'd prefer is a nice stable technocratic neoliberal consensus. Sarah Longwell: Really focuses on lowering the debt and going through educational reform
