Jacquelin Clay pays homage to John Thompson @jtp_placemaking to highlight lack of discussion around the power of community involvement. Couldn’t agree more having just completed @VisionforKendal where the townsfolk have embraced big change.

@VisionforKendal we did just try just and it works. It allowed the entire community of Kendal to taste a fantastic future. @FarrerHuxley @jtp_placemaking
"In a time where the future looks darker than ever, Alex Krieger reminds us of how utopian dreams once galvanized American (city planning) history, and shows that our current worries—rather than dreams—require new utopias to be imagined." - via @ArchDaily hgsd.us/318VItC

Oxenholme is the Cumbrian station, Oxenhope the Yorkshire one. Lots of creative energy coalescing around @VisionforKendal - some really great ideas for the area.

One of the recommendations the @VisionforKendal consultants presented to us tonight was that we should re-think Kendal's housing growth, away from low-density, car-dependent suburbs in favour of mid-density in-town housing. A lot like this impressively sustainable scheme..
Goldsmith Street is the UK’s largest social housing scheme to achieve Passivhaus Certification, where buildings provide a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy. Built by @MikhailRiches the project has been shortlisted for the @riba #StirlingPrize.

The twin notions that Kendal's size makes getting around by bike and on foot very realistic and attractive, combined with the opinion that facilities for doing so could be so much better has been a strong theme in the workshops today.
Really interesting discussions on the future of Kendal. Cycling, affordable housing and opportunities for young people are the topics being talked about @visionforkendal
