For centuries, humans have thrown crabs and lobsters into boiling water alive.
In 2021, scientists reviewed over 300 studies and found strong evidence that decapod crustaceans can experience pain and suffering.
In 2022, the UK officially recognized them as sentient beings under law.

It took hundreds of studies for us to acknowledge the capacity to suffer in creatures with nervous systems. And yes, crustaceans are biological organisms, by the way.
