55+ building but could buy it and rent it to an old person for some passive income. I'm sure you know a few that didn't save for retirement

post for michael's birthday on Drunk Dividends because I don't have a character limit
Happy Birthday! my little brother Michael would have been 27 years old today. Joining the 19 club was much cooler than the 27 club, anyway. Michael never did like to go with the flow.
I wrote a long post the other night about how when I was starting my first business I day-dreamt about starting in my startup with employees who would eventually be promoted all the way up to executives in my multi-billion dollar empire. I thought I could find staff that would see the vision and put in the work and I dreamt of putting in long nights beside them, grinding day after day trying to get the business going.
I'd hope they would see how hard I worked and matched my energy. $15/hr would become $20/hr that would become $50/hr that would become 250k/yr as they took on more responsibility, we hired more people for them to manage, and grew the companies. I thought real life would be like in the Social Network or Billions or Peaky Blinders and that the people I struggled in the trenches with would one day be standing beside me at the top I thought I could be a mentor to people. I THOUGHT EVERYONE FELT LIKE ME
Michael was a big part of that dream and I always admired family that was close with eachother and could build a business together. That was part of the reason why I moved him into my apartment with me when he was 18 so that I could try and mentor him.
sometimes I think I just needed a little more time.
Michael was someone who had so much passion and respect for what I was trying to build and I would have loved for him to be a part of it, even if it was a nepotism hire
My Grandmother passed away just about two months ago on June 9th, 2026. We laid her down to rest right beside Michael's grave, with my Grandfather and Uncle.
Going through that entire process gave me vivid flashbacks of dealing with Michael's affairs in that cold February 2019. Once again completing my silent drive across the city to comfort my parents after receiving the call.
I don't feel much holding me back anymore, buddy.
I've unlocked the shackles that bound my feet to the reality of mediocrity. I am building in your name.
Gotchu, still.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Happy Fathers Day!
Fun fact: our Mascot and Logo at Business #1 whom we affectionately call "Dr. Brent" is actually a caricature of my Father.
When I started working on the business in 2014 when I was 18 years old, it was also around the same time my father had retired from his long career as a public school teacher.
Being retired, he had a lot more extra time, and offered "if you ever need any help, let me know"
Months before our official launch, we were still using the image of a Shrugging Doctor that we found on Google that we had no rights to use. So we had a thought... what if we got ny father to pose for us. Dr. Brent was born!
Using a stolen stethoscope, borrowed tie, and lab coat purchased from the University science lab, we dressed "Dr. Brent" up and took a photoshoot.
After going through some iterations we got a local graphic designer to drawn the logo based on the photo- and the rest is history!
Thanks Dad, and Happy Father's Day!
