update on Asher's Slime game馃挌 The dungeon's popularity is plummeting! Only the Slime can make it fun again. Lots of magic sodas are needed to get the job done. #indiegame #gamedev #techart #slime #game

right now tech companies frown upon the concept of copyright and are just enjoying the theft-driven bubble. Imagine the irony when they found they've lost their moat too and have to fight back

what's in for the tech companies..? they'll basically be obsolete since llm and the open source community can create whatever tools for free for everyone Could that be why they really hate Valve, a monopoly that actually provides a fair market?

Valve is scary because the only way out of this shitstorm is a monopoly that Epic can control, otherwise it doesn't have moat or economy of scale. Switching cost out of UE will basically be zero and the branding will be ruined soon at this pace

If it's so great soon developers will be training models on UE specifically and tailor our better, faster custom engines to avoid the 5% fee. We'll be able to make llm cherry-pick whatever we want in the new UE updates

Been studying 3rd person camera and discovered a neat trick from Zelda Walls blocking camera is commonly solved by moving the viewpoint closer. However when the wall is moved away, Link's camera doesn't immediately jump to its original 3rd person position, instead only slowly recovers when there is user input.

This happens during combat / lock on as well. Details like this greatly reduce the chance of motion sickness, because "my viewpoint moves when I didn't expect it to" is the biggest cause of your brain thinking "something is wrong we must be poisoned".

The thing I hate most about generative 'ai' art is when I see something actually good. I know a real artist did that style very well, and someone else drew her hair in this specific way I love and want to see more. But there is no way to know more about the artists who the 'ai' stole from. 'ai' art doesn't have real value but is getting better at theft and attracting eyeballs. It's disrespectful. Many reputable game companies I know are rolling out no-ai policy, my team among them. I don't care that stealing can be profitable. I didn't work my whole life becoming who I am today to be a piece of shit.

Thanks for all your DMs! I woke up to way too many animation showreels than I expected, a lot of which are spectacular and humbling, others inspiring with passion. I'll sort through everything in a day or two and also try to give as much constructive feedback as I can 鉂わ笍
