Fun times... I worked @Astro_Ayers during Field Day on 29 June 2025. My video of the contact (mine is at 1:48): youtube.com/watch?v=7gBXLm5l… Then @JonnyKimUSA posted a video with contacts from the ISS side that day (mine is at 1:14): youtube.com/watch?v=Y9VY1uNj… Plus a QSL card. :-)

Received my Canadaward today. "Only" took a bit over six years to work those 13 Provinces/Territories! The recent @VE7PTN (and VA7VST Andrea) Super Rover trip way up North was perfect! Thank you! dave

Big Thank You to Doug, @dtabor N6UA, for two squares, DN57 and DN58! That gets me down to two squares left for Gridmaster, FN14 and DN08. Thanks for roving way up there in Montana Doug!

While in the Bay Area, N6UTC & I drove down to Santa Cruz after Pacificon wrapped up on Sunday 18 October 2026. CM86 is a mostly wet grid, and we went to a park to work an SO-50 pass. I operated from my car, & N6UTC went to a table across the park from me with his gear.

N6UTC & I worked each other early in that SO-50 pass. We also worked stations across western North America during this pass. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=lg60Xfxk…

No cross-band repeater on the last ISS pass before 1630 UTC, but copied 3 pics using ID-5200 & Elk. Max elevation 23.5 deg across western & southern sky. @ARISS_Intl

Was hoping for the cross-band repeater to be on, but ended up making a video showing my ID-5200 receiving a couple of SSTV transmissions before 1630 UTC this morning. Also heard a couple of 1200bps packet bursts, separated by 3 minutes. youtube.com/watch?v=FTlVbxWp…

Using my Sony ICD-PX470 connected to ID-5200's SP1 speaker jack to record audio into 128kbps MP3s had better pics with QSSTV than the radio's 8k WAV files written to radio's microSD card. Before running them through QSSTV, I had to convert them to 48k WAVs.

I also visited Fort Point National Historic Site, on the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge where I did an NPOTA activation in 2016. Worked a couple of satellite passes from here, along with more pictures...

Weather at Fort Point was very different when I visited in October 2016 for an NPOTA activation. Windy, rainy, and in general very wet... but I was able to make the 10 QSOs (all via satellite) before starting my drive back to Arizona.

Some pictures from San Francisco, last weekend... from Vista Point, on the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. The tower is Sutro Tower, used by many radio & TV stations.

ISS cross-band repeater was off during 1800 UTC pass, after the scheduled contact on the previous pass. @ARISS_Intl

Listened to ISS on 145.800 & 437.550 during 1620 UTC pass. Heard some SSTV on UHF, NA1SS was calling W4SMA on VHF starting at 1620 UTC until they finally made contact around 1629 UTC near my LOS. Using ID-52PLUS & Elk to monitor both frequencies.

After the pass, I ran my UHF recording through QSSTV to get some pictures. My 3rd pic at 1626 UTC was the best, just started getting a 4th pic approaching my LOS.

After posting this a few weeks ago, I found that WB0FEW is now AE5PL in Texas. I e-mailed him the image of his QSL card. Tonight, Pete sent me images of the card he received from the K9NBH club where I made that 80m CW QSO as K9NBH/WD9EWK many years ago. Wow! Simply, wow!
Found an old QSL card, for one of my first contacts after receiving my original WD9EWK license in 1977. Operating from the radio club on the Great Lakes naval base (K9NBH) north of Chicago, I worked WB0FEW on 80m CW in nearby Evanston.

K9NBH is apparently back on the air now, after a long hiatus. N0RSF was the club's MARS call, before the N prefix became available for amateur calls, and MARS calls went to 3-letter prefixes. KRK-5895 was the CB call sign of the club.

Icom ID-5200. It does cross-band full-duplex, FM and D-Star. It can record audio from both VFOs into separate WAV files, big improvement over ID-5100's recording functionality.
