🚨Neymar Jr. on his altercation with Rodrigo Nestor that resulted in a red card during Santos’ draw against Bahia:
🗣️ Neymar Jr.: “Honestly, I find it embarrassing when younger players think they can disrespect us simply because we’re getting older. They see the grey hairs, the injuries, the years we’ve spent in football, and suddenly think we’ve become retired grandfathers who should sit down and let them talk anyhow. I don’t understand that mentality.
“Rodrigo is a young Brazilian boy. I see him as a brother because we’re from the same country. We were waiting for the second half to restart, so I told him, ‘Listen, you’re being disrespectful. If you want to go far in this sport, learn to respect people who have already walked the road you’re trying to enter.’
“He told me to go away.
“I looked at him and said, ‘You need to listen when somebody is trying to teach you something. I’m not your enemy. I’m trying to help you avoid becoming one of those players who has talent but no character.’
“He nodded sarcastically, so I realised he wasn’t taking me seriously. I covered my mouth and told him, ‘If you genuinely believe you can do better than me, then go and do it for Brazil. Put on that national-team shirt, carry the expectations of an entire country, and show us who you really are. People know your football, but don’t act like you’re already a national treasure. Even your full name needs a Google search before people remember it!’
“Suddenly, he ran to the referee like a crybaby and told him I said something about him being born to monkey parents. I was in complete shock!
“Brother, what? Where did that come from? We are two Brazilians on a football pitch, and now you’re inventing something like that to get me sent off? If you want to argue with me, argue with me. But don’t put disgusting words in my mouth because you think a red card is the easiest way to win a conversation.
“I was furious because racism is not a joke to me. You cannot attach something that serious to my name because you’re angry with what I said. I know what I said and what I didn’t say. There is a difference between criticising somebody’s football and making a racist statement.
“I’ve seen players cover their mouths to speak and not get sent off, but when it comes to Neymar, then everyone suddenly remembers that such a childish rule exists. If covering your mouth is enough to turn a normal conversation into a disciplinary issue, then the rule should be applied consistently not only when people want to punish me.
“After the final whistle, I went to him again. I told him, ‘Congratulations, kid. You got me sent off today. You can celebrate that if it makes you feel like a champion. But remember: a red card can remove me from a match; it cannot remove my history from football.’
“Then I told him, ‘You will never become Neymar by hating Neymar. You will never become a bigger star by trying to destroy somebody else’s name. If you want to be remembered, build your own story instead of trying to write the ending of mine.’
“And yes, I wanted to get one back at him, and I did not with my feet, because the referee had already made sure I couldn’t do that anymore. I did it with words.
‘Today, you managed to get Neymar sent off. Congratulations. But when people talk about your career in ten years, make sure they remember something you achieved on a football pitch not just the afternoon you needed a red card to feel bigger than me!’
“That’s what I told him. He might be young and talented, and I genuinely hope he achieves great things. But nobody should confuse youth with greatness or disrespect with confidence.
“I’m not asking young players to worship me. I’m asking them to understand that football had a history before they arrived. You don’t have to like Neymar, but don’t expect to build your legacy by trying to tear mine down.”

Steph Curry on Klay Thompson:
“I miss that dude every day. But that’s part of the NBA. Once he left, was that three years ago now? Yeah. You know everything’s not going to be the same because we all grew up together. We grew up as competitors, as champions, and at the end of the day, when it is all said and done, I can’t wait for us to break bread, have a glass of bourbon, and reminisce on all the things that we were able to accomplish. I’m happy for him in Miami.”
