Got local flooding? Well then, #DoYourPelvicFloorExercises
(Water of Leith, full to bursting just before Dean Village)
Due to the storm we have taken the decision to close the Visitor Centre and cancel our planned event today. Sunday 25th October, with a lively river and high winds in wooded areas please take extra care
With a lot of rain forecast ahead you can track the rise in flow on the Water of Leith via SEPA's website site here - waterlevels.sepa.org.uk/Stat…
Whilst any discharges from the combined sewage overflows can be seen here.

Water of Leith looked amazing this morning, as the reflection of the autumn leaves turned it golden.
Lots of dippers along the 6 mile stretch from Currie Kirk to Gorgie Road. These two were knocking the stuffing out of each other when I caught up with them!
#urbanwildlife #dipper
The Coalie Coalition were out in the sunshine today for their 13th session - unlucky for leaves and taggers, as we swept off paths and steps to restore optimal accessibility, and removed graffiti from signs and walls. We were joined by a small group from Locogen too. Thanks folks

THE DEAN'S FAIRYTALE FIVE-STOREY TREASURE
Perched dramatically at the southern end of Thomas Telford's historic Dean Bridge, Kirkbrae House is one of Edinburgh's most distinctive architectural treasures. Its steeply pitched slate turret, weathered sandstone walls and elegant windows lend it an almost fairytale quality. Towering above the wooded gorge of the Water of Leith, the building recalls the romantic castles and baronial mansions of old Scotland.
Behind its picturesque appearance lies a fascinating history stretching back more than three centuries. Incorporating a late 17th-century inn, Kirkbrae House was transformed in 1892 by architect J. G. Fairley into an imposing Scots Baronial residence. Its distinctive character reflects the Victorian fascination with Scotland's medieval heritage, blending elements of the original building with the decorative flourishes and romantic silhouettes of the Scottish Baronial revival.
Rising above the steep slopes of the Dean Valley, the house forms a memorable gateway to Dean Village, once a thriving community of millers and bakers whose livelihoods depended upon the Water of Leith. Alongside the great stone arches of Telford's bridge, it offers a wonderful glimpse of Edinburgh's layered past. Here, centuries of history, architectural ingenuity and natural beauty converge in one of the capital's most atmospheric settings.
Little wonder that this enchanting corner of Edinburgh, with its pointed turret, winding pathways and dramatic surroundings, evokes something of the magical world of Hogwarts!

Path Closure - The Kinauld Tannery Footbridge on the Water of Leith Walkway (NCN75), east of Waulkmill Loan, west of Currie, Kirkgate, will be closed from tomorrow following inspection findings likely for sometime. A signed diversion will be in place via Lanark Road and Kirkgate.
Great to have more young people from Balerno HS out with us yesterday, preventing litter entering the water at the start of the urban stretch of the river. Balerno send different pupils every month so we can engage with as many as possible, encouraging pickers not droppers. Fab👍
A productive day at Saughton park with volunteers from @InformedTweet and some of their partners from the @scotgov all lending a hand.
Teams helped to improve the local paths for the many users and waded the river to keep it healthy.
Thanks for all effort folks – at Newcraighall, Scotland

WHERE IN SCOTLAND?
Where is this?
This is part of an image that appears somewhere on Undiscovered Scotland. Please reply with your answers. We'll award kudos to the first correct response before posting the next in the series tomorrow.

ALT Today's 'Where in Scotland' image. It is a squarish image showing a view along a river that comes into the bottom right of the frame and extends to its centre, where it disappears into vegetation. To its left is a path, then a wall, and the backs of housing. On the right is a mix of old and new buildings right on the edge of the river. The light is grey.
Another great turn out for the session in Bonnington today where we got busy trimming vegetation and sweeping leaves from the paths, cleaned graffiti, removed litter from the walkway and the water, and trimmed back 2 large willow trees that were hanging across river. Brilliant!🙌
A lovely start to the week taking a walk through Craiglockart Dell on a fungi survey.
Plenty on show at the moment from artist palletes, earth stars, stink horns and a beautiful violet webcap – at Edinburgh, Scotland

Where can you walk 23,000 steps and barely find any #litter?
Water of Leith Walkway! 💚
I only filled a bag because I carried on around Balerno. A splendid day for it too ☀️ – at Currie, Scotland
A dedicated team of nineteen were out today from the Edinburgh office of Blackrock making a difference on the walkway.
They did a huge rake & brush of soggy leaves from Dean Bridge to St Bernard's bridge. Followed by a cut back along the Damside path.
Top effort folks

Another fabulous turn out for today's session around Balgreen! We swept leaves and trimmed vegetation from paths, planted and weeded in the Community Garden, weeded the bridges over to Murrayfield, and coppiced willow to use in other projects. Litter picking too obviously!
