I'm teaching English to juniors this year. I hope they are ready to work as hard as I do. High expectations will lead to high performance, I hope.

Teachers shouldn’t have to work harder to make instruction stick or for high student engagement to happen. Often, it’s the simple ideas that are the most effective. Gamifying something like doing human bingo, content soup, or even a fun Friday activity ALL have their place. Keeping it simple and thinking “would I want to do this” is often the best place to start. Also, STEAL IDEAS from social media and from other teachers. The BEST TEACHERS don’t come up with the best ideas. They take them from someone else 💪🏻😎❤️

Sometimes, I wish people feared social-media speaking as much as they fear public speaking. Okay, actually, most of the time. Be a voice. Or Be a noise. Life’s a choice.

The discomfort isn't the price you pay for the result. The discomfort is the point itself. It's what makes us feel alive. Without the stakes or challenge, we get none of the feeling and experience that makes the thing worthwhile in the first place.

Right now, there are hundreds of thousands of teachers begging for school supplies online, and yet there are people dumb enough to believe that this ever actually happened. They are horrible for even saying this, and you’re an idiot if you believe it.

The skill is not personality. It is flexibility. Speak up when the room needs a point. Ask more questions than you answer. Match the other person before you try to move them.

unless testing shifts toward in-person and/or blue books soon, AI is going to turn a whole lot of education into the informational equivalent of "wow I [paid a guy, who] squatted 200 lbs at the gym yesterday, new personal record!"
Every college syllabus should include these graphs. Use AI for homework, you will get it done faster and get a higher grade, and then get crushed on the exam.

New study: AI and loneliness A large pre-registered experiment of French adults assigned one group to have daily personal conversations with AI. Compared to a control group, they experienced: - more subjective loneliness - a decline in life satisfaction - a rise in depressive affect and objective isolation - more dinners alone

We’re getting ready to send our oldest to @DePauwU this fall. We’ve called a few times with questions and EVERYONE there has been so amazing! It feels so much better to know he will be well cared for in the fall

I’m sick of “opt-out” toggles for automatically enabled generative AI features. It’s past time to make “opt in” the default setting for sensitive features. wired.com/story/please-stop-…

The smarter women are, the more hostility they face. In the U.S. & China, the higher women’s IQs, the less they're liked—and the more they’re undermined by coworkers. Men pay no price for being bright. It's long past time to recognize female intellect as an asset, not a threat.

A telltale sign of an ignorant leader is failing to read books. Fiction builds empathy and imagination. Nonfiction boosts concentration and critical thinking. Not reading fuels mental stagnation. Leaders who “don't have time to read” are leaders who don't make time to learn.

One of the most important lessons running taught me: How to work hard for a very long for something far in the distance. You don’t build a great Track season in May. You build it in the cold, dark months no one sees. Delayed gratification is one of the most transferable skills
