Officers were dispatched to the Towneplace Suites at 5473 W Highmarket Dr at about 8:45 am. Employees of the hotel accessed an outbuilding used for storage & found a man inside. They described the man as armed with a large stick and reported he was threatening to shoot them. 1/4

Officers immediately began lifesaving efforts. Fire arrived & took over. Ultimately, the suspect was pronounced deceased. Witnesses on the scene are being interviewed. Witnesses initially describe suspect as running at the officer with large metal objects in both hands. 3/4

At about 10:30pm on 10/3, Officers were dispatched on an auto-pedestrian crash in the southbound lanes of Mountain View Corridor at 4800 S. Upon arrival, officers found a male deceased in the roadway. The accident investigations team responded to conduct the investigation. 1/2

Two motorists reported they had struck the decedent. Both were cooperative and remained on scene. The decedent was identified as 62-year-old Rigoberto Castillo-Hernandez of West Valley City. The accident remains under investigation. 2/2

SHOOTING:At approximately 2:45 pm, officers responded to the area of 3900 S 4400 W where an adult male succumbed to injuries from a gunshot wound. Initial reports indicate this was an accidental discharge of a firearm. However this investigation is ongoing.

FATAL ACCIDENT: an SUV traveling EB on 4100 S. is reported to have run red light and collided with a commercial vehicle traveling NB on Mountain View Corridor. Both drivers were transported to hospital. Driver of SUV has died. Driver of commercial vehicle is in good condition.

About 11 AM, traffic officers l conducting an enforcement operation along Bangerter Highway observed a vehicle run a red light NB at 3500 S. The officer attempted a stop. The suspect instead turned around at 3100 S. and headed SB. The Officer stopped pursuing. 1/3

At 3500 S., the suspect ran another red light and hit a vehicle. The suspect, then fled on foot. Officers pursued and were able to catch the suspect. One officer suffered an injury during that process. It is not life-threatening. 2/3
