بفضل من الله و توفيقه في عام ٢٠٢٤ استحوذت @Wake_Cap على شركة Crews By Core بوادي السيليكون، والان تستحوذ ويكاب على شركة Trackfy البرازيلية و تتوسّع بأنشطتها لسوق أمريكا اللاتينية في خطوة مكملة لأعمالها في السعودية و الإمارات و أمريكا و اليابان. خطوات موفّقة بإذن الله تؤكد أن ويكاب تحل مشكلة عالمية في مجال المقاولات وذلك بحلول تقنية مناسبة للأسواق عالمية. بلا شك لدي تحيّز كبير للشركة بحكم استثمارنا فيها من البدايات في عام ٢٠١٨ و استمرار دعمنا لها من خلال عدة صناديق ولكن وبعد هذه التجربة تحديدًا، أي شركة سعودية أو في سوق ناشئ و ترغب في التوسع عالميًا بنجاح ، لابد لها من بناء تقنية عالية جدًا بمقاييس عالمية تتفوّق على مثيلاتها وتمكّنها من المنافسة و الفوز في عدّة أسواق لجودة ما تقدّم من منتجات وخدمات. بالتوفيق لجميع المؤسسين أينما كانوا وبحول الله وخلال السنين القليلة القادمة نكرّر كثيرًا: " من السعودية للعالم".

خلال جلسة حوارية سابقة ناقشنا موضوع توسّع الشركات الناشئة خارج المملكة و القطاعات الواعدة لذلك مع مشاركة قصة توسّع @Wake_Cap لأسواق مثل أمريكا واليابان و الإمارات و انتهاءً بالبرازيل. وكان ختام الجلسة فقرة الأسئلة من الحضور الكريم. بدعمكم و حضوركم هذه الجلسة بداية لجلسات نوعية أخرى نهدف من خلالها لطرح مواضيع مختلفة تهم منظومة ريادة الأعمال. آمل طرح المواضيع التي تهمكم لدراستها و طرحها للنقاش مستقبلًا مع الشكر والتقدير للجميع 🙏

Most successful startups are ones who tackle big problems which are hard to solve. It creates a natural barrier to entry and once they win, they win big. Here is my 2 cents on WakeCap a con-tech company which Graphene has been backing for the past 6 years: Wakecap started as a hardware company solving an issue which the construction world have been facing forever and that is the productivity of the workforce. Yet; the problem is not easy due to the nature of the construction industry. We’re talking about an industry that resists change and doesn’t adopt technology except for office works. In reality, office work is more about planning not execution. The moment you get to the field, it’s about equipment and labor. If you focus on labor, the challenge is that depending on the geography; most of these labor costs are very low, they can’t make use of high technologies and they’re not geared for it anyways, which means whatever you’ll provide them has to be very cost efficient and easy to use in a plug & play fashion, otherwise they’ll drop it. Why? Because they care about getting paid and to them utilizing technology doesn’t align with that. This is proven by the number of overtime hours logged in each job site and comparing it to the progress of the project. On the other hand; construction companies; deal with labor as a black box, because they face pressure from owners to deliver which comes at the cost of the number of workforce deployed on site and their safety. In addition; due to the construction companies low margins, they’d tend to cut corners wherever they can which brings additional risk to labor and the quality of the job being delivered. This results in project time and cost overruns in majority of construction projects. This raises disputes between contstruction companies and owners when penalties are applied, therefore; more transparency is required. When it comes to owners, they tend to think that penalty clauses in their contracts is what will drive the construction company to do its best and treat these penalties as the stick and where they can have potential savings if it’s applied. However; reality is that owners loss is often way higher than the penalty if you just think of the potential revenue loss which is typically proportional to the size of the project. Imagine a world where construction companies penalties are equivalent to the lost revenue!! I would expect a major shift in how projects are delivered. As you can probably see where I’m heading to; applying technologies in construction requires a real mind shift with all stakeholders. Starting from the top where we have the owners, all the way to the bottom where we have the workforce themselves, technology in the field is important because it turns a job site into a safe site for the workforce, effective for the construction industry and efficient for the owners. This is proven by the impact technology brought to the project planning and it’s overdue for the field to have its moment to make use of technology. Having got involved with Wakecap, I can tell you that resistance is at all levels but this reminds me of the resistance that came with most of the technologies we’re using today. In the end, its change is imminent and is the only constant we know. For now, Wakecap is spearheading the industry with over 100,000 connected worker and over 80 million logged hours.
