JUST IN: An armed bystander carrying a concealed weapon took down a 16-year-old gunman who killed three children and one adult during an elementary school shooting in Bend, Oregon.

I absolutely want universal health care. I want healthy kids with access to care, regardless of income. These free health clinics in some public schools, on the surface, seem like an incredible idea.
BUT… and hear me out with an open mind, this is a HUGE scope creep on public schools. This is an area of social services that should not be facilitated in schools. I’d have SO many questions regrading the level of care and parental notification of a child’s visit. I’ll bet there is not a parental notification guarantee. I don’t know if I want my 7 year old son alone with a medical person and I am not even aware of it.
So hate my thoughts or not, it’s how I feel. Proceed with caution and find out about your public school’s mental and physical health services and policies.

My problem with this is that part of the joy of dominoes was learning to set them up without them falling. Sometimes they fell, and you had to start again. It took time, effort, and developed fine motor skills.
Yes, that train is fun...but it rips all the value out of the game.
Ever since we got this automatic domino train, my kids have been having a blast. They've created all sorts of tracks and shapes, and they love building it together with their friends when they come over!

Somewhere in America tonight a grandmother is reading to a grandchild who is supposed to be asleep.
The child asked for one more chapter.
Then another.
It is past ten o'clock and nobody is stopping.
This is not a parenting failure.
This is how readers are made.
At ten o'clock on a Friday night, in the middle of one more chapter.

If you care about children and reading — this is the account for you.
I write every day about reluctant readers.
About the teachers and librarians who never give up on them.
About the grandparents who keep a shelf of books just in case.
