This is a call to the Ministry of Sport, JAAA, and Corporate Jamaica let’s come together and make this happen
It’s time we start making real investments in our most natural resource “SPORT”
Let’s equip our athletes not just to compete, but to build brands & create opportunities
It’s time we move from talk to action. Let’s create a workshop designed to truly develop our athletes and unlock their full potential beyond the field.
Focus Areas:
- Media Training
- The Business of Sport & Social Media
- How to Build and Raise Your Value as an Athlete
BUT AM I WRONG THO.
I don’t subscribe to the notion that some athletes stay off social media or have no presence because of fear of fans’ criticism. Track & Field is the only sport where the athletes take offense to everything. If LeBron and other greats from other sports took offense to every scathing criticism, they wouldn’t be as successful today. If anything, that should fuel your next performance.
For many, sport is a gateway out of poverty, whether yard or abroad. Warren made a good point that parents are being fans instead of parents. He name-dropped Serena Williams, but there are other athletes like Simone Biles and the said Noah Lyles, whose mom has stood behind him. I think we don’t have a culture where parents, especially the ones from low socioeconomic backgrounds, take interest in their child’s overall development. “Yeah, mi son or mi daughter is a big runna. Yuh nuh see how dem mash up champs,” and it stops there.

Warren raised an important point about the social media presence of athletes, he says many are too chill and nonchalant. You have to get the fans interacting with you on social media. Athletes in Jamaica don’t give brands much to work with - Mr. Analyst on YouTube

@Warren_Weir solid points made with @shearer39. I hope our athletes see it as constructive criticism rather than bashing .There’s so much potential for them to expand their brand and maximize their marketability beyond just a shoe contract.
