The gut is much more than a digestive organ. It is a metabolic sensing and signaling system that helps shape how we respond to food, regulate appetite, and control metabolism.
Really enjoyed going deep on this with Andrew Huberman, from gut biology and the microbiome to obesity, GLP-1 therapies, and endoscopic treatments.
The new Huberman Lab episode is out: Best Tools for Gut Health and Weight Loss | Dr. Chris Thompson

🎥 Endoscopic intragastric balloon removal – key technical pearls
◆ This case shows removal of an intragastric balloon placed outside the U.S., at a time when the device and its connection system were not yet available locally.
◆ Complete deflation is critical. A specialized suction device was used, allowing rapid evacuation of ~500 cc and controlled balloon collapse. @WasAbiDoc recommendation!
◆ After full deflation, the balloon was grasped with a Raptor forceps and removed using a slow, controlled pull, minimizing risk to the stomach and esophagus.
◆ When dedicated devices are unavailable, alternative techniques (e.g., 19-gauge needle aspiration) can be used—but rapid suction systems offer clear efficiency and safety advantages.
📌 Take-home: Safe intragastric balloon removal depends on complete deflation, controlled extraction, and familiarity with multiple tools.
My first day @StLukesHealthTX the Woodlands H, @bcmhouston Advanced Endoscopy service went GREAT! Two complex procedures with no hiccups. Thank you for the support @EndoscopyOthman and Kalpesh Patel. Looking forward to expanding the breath of care @TheTownshipTX
