There’s a comforting story about how humanity escaped poverty: capitalism.
One variable, one chart, one conclusion. Incomes were flat for ten thousand years, then capitalism arrived and the line went up.
It’s wrong, spin, myth. A lie.
Let me tell you why🧵>>>

@TheGreenParty, for the sake of our futures can you stop saying ‘raise taxes to pay for…’
Tax removes money from the economy - it doesn’t ‘fill government coffers’.
Multiple crises have arrived because our political parties do not understand this. For all our sakes, be better.

Trump lost the 2020 election. Putin invaded Ukraine. Europe is not about to fall. January 6th happened. Trump is incredibly corrupt and incompetent.

In which the General Secretary of the TUC no less, immediately accepts the Tory household framing fallacy, skips into Thatcher’s trap, closes the door on any hope of change and hands the Tory the key.
China drags 100s of millions out of poverty while the British left roll over.
“Next year he actually has to find the money that doesn’t exist.”
“There are things the Government can do that aren’t just about tax.”
Rachel Wolf, who co-wrote the 2019 Conservative manifesto and Paul Nowak, TUC General Secretary, discuss the challenge facing Andy Burnham’s government, ahead of next week’s Budget

There’s a type of person who:
A. Rails against benefits
B. Insists everyone pays their way
C. Applauds billionaires who abandon the country that made them rich in order to stop paying their way
D. Will take any handout themselves
We call these people, cunts.
@chloroquinecake
Don’t call ‘em stooopid though.

A Welshman walks into a ‘Spoons.
Tells the barman he's got a great joke about Reform voters.
The barman tells him that he's a Reform voter, so are the 3 big guys at the end of the bar and the 2 woman sat next to him.
'So do you still want to tell it', the barman says.
The man says. 'No. Not if I'm going to have to explain it 6 times"... 😆
Don’t you mean ‘damn hard’?
That’s the term.

Working hard is "venal"?
Of course life is more than money, that’s the whole point. The marginal return on time determines whether trading extra hours for extra pay is actually worth it.
But if you still don't grasp that, I'm wasting my time explaining it.
Being venal is venal.
Not understanding the nature of work is tragic.
‘Trading extra hours…”
There speaks a man who has never enjoyed his work; never strived for something more than money. Doesn’t even understand the concept.

Elon Musk claims that Ukraine allegedly violated Starlink's terms of use and used the system on combat drones.
As someone who was inside the process at the Ministry of Defense, I can say with certainty that this is not true.
In February of this year, whitelists were introduced. Stationary terminals could be registered by both military personnel and civilians.
But for any satellite terminal to work while on the move, it had to be added to a special list and connected to the military Starshield system. Otherwise, no satellite communication terminals in Ukraine would work.
In other words, using civilian Starlink for drone missions was technically impossible. All drone missions that required satellite communication could only be carried out using Starshield.
We are very grateful to the United States and SpaceX for access to critically important satellite communications. Ukraine did not violate the terms of use.
Why do billionaires care about taxation?
They already have more money than they could personally spend in a thousand lifetimes.
Why do we excuse such greed and venality? Why do we celebrate tax evasion and resource hoarding?
If you are rich, you did it using all the daily provisions of the state: the legal framework, security, trade guarantees, transportation network etc.
You used the state, now time to put something back so others may prosper.
Case in point.

Loanable funds theory treats credit as a redistribution of prior savings. Capitalist banks create deposits when they lend.
There's a delicious irony in some of capitalism's most fervent apologists failing to understand the very institutions that make it possible.

We use 20% less electricity that we did.
Light bulbs, today 3w - 8w, 20 yrs ago 60w - 100w
Washing machines used to fill with hot water from a cylinder, today, we heat cold water to 40 degree.
Storage heaters, the most expensive form of heating, today, mainly gas but changing to efficient electric heating.
