A very warm Watford welcome to George, who has had his account for almost nine years, only started posting yesterday and has decided he’d like the Spanish court case against Pozzo thrown out. teapawt.net/gsmithherts?s=11&t=tQW…

So the fan meeting only threw more fuel on the fire. As everyone expected. This is genuinely the worst public relations I have ever seen.

Some lovely sentences in this article: • The constant churn of players and managers leaves a place that describes itself as ā€˜the original family club’ feeling more like a hotel lobby which bodies merely pass through • There’s always been stories…of envelopes slipped under hotel room doors with team changes sent from on high. One source close to a former manager recalled players being signed without their knowledge. Daily Mail Sport heard a perhaps far-fetched tale this week of senior players receiving WhatsApp messages in the dressing room at half-time with substitute recommendations to pass on to the coach. • There’s still the uncomfortable relationship Watford has with agent Mogi Bayat, who they continue to do business with despite him awaiting trial in Belgium over charges including money laundering and fraud. Bayat denies all wrongdoing • The message from the club is that patience is required and there’s no need to panic. Results will come and they always change the mood. For supporters, it’s too late for that. For them, they only have one way left to stay alive. Their only chance of living. #watfordfc

Since Tom Ince’s #watfordfc interview I’ve exchanged several messages with various ex-players and coaching staff from the last decade. I’m not going to name them, but this is some of what they said.

The only way Friday’s meeting is successful is either Gino says the club is close to a sale and he wants out or if not, he orders the sacking of Duxbury, Dowling and Nani and he’s going to do things properly. If it’s not either of those then he’s wasting all of our time (again)

We're all making light of it, me included but this is devastating to watch play out. Its been a long time coming and almost needed to happen but doesn't make it any easier. Likely a long tough road ahead still, it will test us greatly as supporters.

Today’s 0-4 at the Vic against a Burnley side that had gone the best part of a year without an away league win is as bad as it gets. Three goals down inside half an hour. The away end celebrating their first win in 241 days. Our own supporters already calling for the owners before the hour. This isn’t a bad afternoon or a poor tactical setup. It’s the logical endpoint of fourteen years under the same ownership. I have said for years that Dave Bassett’s short spell felt like the worst of times as a fan. That was a club in freefall after the Graham Taylor peak, short on quality and direction. What we have now is worse. The damage is structural, and it has stripped the club of its identity. Under the Pozzos, with Scott Duxbury as the permanent face of the operation, we have cycled through two dozen permanent head coaches. Each one is presented as the man who will finally unlock the squad and end the excuses. Then the results flatline. The recruitment stays a revolving door of short-term assets. The defensive fragility never gets fixed. And the axe falls again. The manager changes. The pattern does not. And with every change, the club drifts further from what it once was. The Watford I grew up with under Graham Taylor had a clear identity. A community club that punched above its weight. Played with purpose. Felt connected to the town. Local lads came through and stayed long enough to mean something. Continuity mattered. There was a style and a culture you could recognise. That has been systematically dismantled. What remains is a recruitment and trading operation that treats the Championship as a shop window. Young players arrive, develop or don’t, then leave. Experienced leaders are optional. Managers walk into bare-bones squads and are then blamed when the results follow. Months without a clean sheet. Goal differences that belong in a relegation scrap. Home form that has turned Vicarage Road into a place where even sides in freefall can turn up and win. These are not one-off failures. They are the product of a club that no longer knows, or cares, what it is supposed to stand for. Duxbury’s annual promises of ā€œno excusesā€ and ā€œachieving our potentialā€ ring hollow. The parameters are never defined. The accountability never reaches the boardroom. The ownership has delivered promotions and Premier League spells in the past. That is not in dispute. What has been delivered since is a club that lurches between mid-table mediocrity and genuine crisis. A fanbase watching the same cycle play out so often that the latest defeat no longer feels surprising. It feels inevitable. And with it has gone the sense that this is still our club rather than someone else’s asset. Today’s result against a side that had forgotten how to win away simply confirms what many of us have been saying. The common factor across all those managers is not the men in the dugout. It is the people who keep hiring them, selling the squad out from under them, and then acting surprised when nothing improves. Troy’s right. The performances and results on the pitch have long since stopped being primarily about the manager. They are the product of ownership and executive management that have normalised decline, erased the historic identity of the club, and then hidden behind the next appointment. Enough. The club is being bled of both competitiveness and character by the same executive decisions that have produced this mess. #PozzoOut #DuxburyOut #WatfordFC
Watford 🤯🫠 They don’t like me saying the truth but the writing is on the wall and has been for months. Feel sorry for the fans still turning up out of loyalty and faith šŸ’›

As depressing as it is, we're probably all ready for the international break. Dionisi must be furious, the players will feel let down. We can't read into a ton of what's happening on the pitch. It's all hands on deck. We're so tactically limited it's unbelievable, multiple players playing through injury again tonight too. We've discussed the potential high ceiling with this squad, but we're witnessing the floor.
Edged out at Ashton Gate.

Watford have a point a game and yet it's probably fair to say Dionisi is putting in a heroic effort and no manager could do better. I remember the Bassini era very well, and it was never anything like this bleak on the pitch. #watfordfc

So good to see well run clubs prosper. Brighton midweek, Brentford tonight. Both have fantastic people on their respective boards. They say ā€œa fish rots from the headā€ - you see it in badly run clubs. Strong leadership filters down too. #bhafc #brentfordfc
