Before you buy a power station, measure what you'd actually run. A plug-in watt meter shows real watts and kWh over a full day. A fridge cycles on and off, so the number on its label isn't its average. Measure first, then size the battery. What's the first thing you'd measure?

A SKYWARN net is an on-air roll call during severe weather, usually run on amateur radio by licensed hams: trained spotters report what they see — hail, wind damage, flooding, rotation — to net control, who relays it to the National Weather Service. Ground truth radar misses.

The watt number on your fridge label is not what it uses all day. The compressor cycles on and off, so the real load is an average. A battery cares about watt-hours per day, not the label. Plug it into a watt meter for 24 hours and read the kWh. What would you test first?

When the power's out and the towers are jammed, how do alerts still reach you? Phones get Wireless Emergency Alerts by cell broadcast, not texts. Radio and TV carry the Emergency Alert System, starting from FEMA Primary Entry Point stations with backup generators.

Those stations reach 90%+ of the US. Find the closest one on FEMA's list and note the frequency: fema.gov/emergency-managers/… Then keep a radio that can pull it in. My power stations keep my radios and phone charged.

MeshCore 1.18 dropped this week. My favorite MeshCore kit right now is an orange Muzi SuperBase. Great screen, real controls, and physical switches for power and GPS. The charging port is on the side, so it stands up on a desk, and there's a belt clip holster too.
