// @HellfireDice being a MEANIE 😭💀
But, I love them and they love meeeeeee 🥺
Had one, did you? Well, quality over quantity, I suppose. What about Jeff, then? Or are we conveniently leavin' him out of the headcount?
Wayne studies Steve’s face, catching every hesitation.
“Well, son, I know when a story’s got a piece missin’.”
“You don’t have to tell me everythin'. Just tell me if we’re talkin' about a human being here.”

away car driver. I'm told what to do and I do it."
"I know that Dustin and Natalie won't stop until the real monster is found guilty. They are so determined, Mr. Munson. Like you have no idea how determined they are and how much evidence they are combing through."
Wayne huffed, arms still around her.
“I’ve had my dark days too, kid. More’n I care to count.”
“Thing is, you can’t let the hurt swallow you whole. Got folks dependin’ on me. Folks I love."
He stubbed out his cigarette and looked at her.
“Now, you eaten?”
So I reckon neither one of us has much of a social circle worth braggin’ about. Difference is… you didn’t exactly choose to lose yours.
If I’m just some old, crazy fella with no friends, what’s that make you, kid? You’re standin’ here jawin’ with me, so I gotta wonder—your social circle run a little thin, too?
Uncle Wayne pulled up outside Steve’s house with his toolbox in hand. The kid had asked him to fix a few minor things around the place.
He knocked twice, and when @HawkinsGoth answered.
“Well, look who it is. Been a while, kid. Heard you were staying here now. How’ve you been?”
“Yeah,” he said at last. “I know Jim.”
He glanced down at the pages being filled, then gave a faint, humorless huff.
He leaned back, rubbing a hand over his tired face.
“Jim was there. Same as me. We saw things we’d rather have left over there.”
“Now, hold on. You ain’t in on this scheme to find me a lady friend, are ya?” Wayne narrowed his eyes. “Because if you are, I’m sleepin’ in the damn shed."
“Don’t need some poor woman wonderin’ why she ever agreed to this mud-smellin’ old hunter.”
Well, ain’t that a surprise. Course I got friends. Just didn’t figure I’d have to start hidin’ from ’em once they got it in their heads I needed a lady friend.
Wayne’s arms stayed firmly around her, his embrace protective.
He gave her a gentle shake, trying to knock some sense into her through all that grief.
“Hey. None of that ‘thanks, Wayne’ stuff,” he grumbled softly. “You call me Uncle Wayne.”
Ain’t got a thing to do with Eddie, Gareth. Truth is, my best friend’s gone and quietly put me in the singles classifieds. Seems he’s decided I need help findin' myself a lady, whether I asked for it or not. Lord knows what he’s written in that ad.
“Hm.”
He glanced over at the kid, giving him a nod.
“Alright… you got me. This ain’t half bad.”
Wayne turned his attention back to the music, tapping two fingers against his knee.
“Good choice, kid. Keep it up.”

Wayne watched her duck her head. That quiet little “I know” told him enough.
He put out his cigarette and shifted closer, pulling her into a gentle, platonic, fatherly hug.
“Ain’t nothin’ I can say gonna fix this. But I can sit here with you. So that’s what I’m gonna do.”

be. All she has is a memory to get through the rest of her life.
But she chooses better.
Wayne is hurting just as much as she is, though it's hard to admit, he's probably hurting more than she is.
A small sniffle.
"I know."
Is all that comes out.
Well, can’t say I blame ’em. Sometimes a person just ain’t in the mood for a muffin, no matter how good it is. Means more for you, I suppose.
And yeah, get yourself somewhere with some AC before you turn into one of those muffins yourself.
“Kid, you’re too damn kind. But if I disappeared, most folks wouldn’t even notice.”
He snorted. “And I ain’t exactly a nice man. I hunt for a livin', smell like mud and whatever poor critter I dragged home. Hardly what you’d call a catch.”
