The most ambitious car-free scheme on the continent, Montréal pedestrianized 11 commercial arteries—totaling 9.4 km—in seven boroughs this summer.
A pandemic-era initiative pushed by business leaders, they have quickly become cherished destinations for locals and tourists alike.

The bottom of Shop St, one of the most successful pedestrianised streets in the country, and the pedestrian crossings have been ripped out by @GalwayCityCo !
This is one of the most unsafe & ignorant displays of public vandalism I’ve seen from a local authority in a long while.

Congrats @brownthomas you made national news - for standing in the way of a better Dublin City - better public transport, less traffic, cleaner air & safer streets for all!
And to that lad from Kerry - you’ll still be able to drive to Dublin (assuming you beat Armagh 😜)

Protesters gathered on Grafton Street today to demand the continuation of the Dublin City Centre Transport Plan. They are calling for reduced congestion and better bus services. Businesses are concerned about a potential decrease in footfall due to lack of public infrastructure.

What we can learn from this report is simply this - the car park owners had to pay someone to make a really bad argument against the transport plan, because there isn't a good argument they could have used.

Always good to meet the Living City crew at Dublin City Hall.
A clear message for @DubCityCouncil's new CEO Richard Shakespeare: people are more important than cars.

We need to focus on how best to move PEOPLE around the city - not cars. There was no consultation process when we allowed Dublin to become car-clogged over the decades. But there was a huge consultation process for the Dublin City Centre Transport Plan and support was widespread.

It’s time to Protest 🪧
We’ve heard back from Richard Shakespeare’s office, he’s “not available” for a meeting with the combined groups
Please join us at Dublin City Hall on Dame St - Monday 8th July at 5.30pm
Let’s make sure he’s heard from the Commuters of Dublin
Dublin Commuter Coalition have sent a letter to the DDC CEO Richard Shakespeare, calling for an emergency meeting to discuss the planned Transport Plan being watered down and potentially delayed.
Please read below and share widely.

This is the breakdown of road users at O’Connell bridge, only 2% of people moving through the junction are in private cars
How is it possible that this project could be facing a delay?

This is absolutely unacceptable Ministerial overreach by Emer Higgins
@EamonRyan @lawlessj
We need our Transport Ministers to ensure the Dublin City Centre Transport Plan goes ahead as scheduled… not delayed because of a well funded lobby of a few prominent businesses
