Democrats did nothing for gay marriage. It was pure individual equal-protection heroism through the federal courts. You know, those completely apolitical federal courts where 4 of the 5 justices in the Obergefell majority (Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, Kagan) were appointed by Democratic presidents, while every single dissenter was a Republican appointee. Just a series of random lawsuits that somehow kept landing in front of the exact judges whose party had spent years treating marriage equality as a core priority. Total coincidence. No politics involved whatsoever. Truly, the purest form of judicial independence.
