Extreme heat can quickly become a medical emergency especially for seniors and other vulnerable people living alone.
Vancouver residents experiencing financial hardship may be eligible for a free emergency cellphone designed to call 911 only. The phones feature large, easy-to-use buttons, simple charging and up to two weeks of battery life.
During heat waves, please check on the people in your life. If a senior or vulnerable person does not have reliable access to a phone, consider helping them obtain one through a participating Vancouver Community Policing Centre.
Phones are available for in-person pickup only and cannot be used for personal calls, texting or regular cellular service.
Help should always be within reach.
