A personal “post” from me:
As I shared in more detail in my final newsletter, my work as a journalist is making way for the next chapter of my career. Earlier this week, I stepped away from my role as a reporter at The Texan to focus on my summer legal internship. It's been years in the making, but the moment seems to have arrived far sooner than expected.
While I am not entirely certain I will never pick up a reporter's pen again, the current plan is to focus on finishing up my degree and beginning a new profession.
I am incredibly grateful to the Burtons for giving me the opportunity to join The Texan more than four years ago. I'm also thankful to our readers, whose support made this work possible. It has been a privilege to serve you and to tell the stories that matter to Texas. It has been one of the great privileges of my life.
Texas is fortunate to have many talented reporters committed to informing the public. If I can ever be of help, don't hesitate to reach out and don’t be a stranger.
As for what's next, my focus now turns toward finishing up the last bits of my degree and prepping for a new career. I'm excited for the opportunities ahead and eager to see where this new path leads.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.

NEW: The Fifth Circuit ruled that a federal law restricting the interstate manufacture, transportation, and distribution of switchblade knives violates the Second Amendment, holding that switchblades are constitutionally protected arms.
This story is perhaps the quintessential illustration of a political culture increasingly permeated by grift, opportunism, and outright unchecked fraud.
Excellent coverage by Kim Roberts.
The plan: run a nationwide scheme falsely claiming your non-profit has 47,000 members and numerous lawmakers in its leadership ranks and aggressively defame/intimidate anyone who asks to look at the non-profit's financials.

Good morning from the Davis Mountains.
I apologize for the late post but most of Jeff Davis County lost power last night in a severe thunderstorm and we just got it back on. It was a hum dinger! ⛈️
Briefly jumped on here to see what all was going on. I don’t have the words to summarize the shameless hypocritical clown show what is the state of Texas politics rn, but Jeremy seems to capture it.
🤔 If anything, the events of the last few days in Texas politics should serve as a lesson in just how terrible and phony the conservative “influencer” space has become, largely driven by manipulative grifters.
Sadly, those who consume their content probably won’t learn that lesson. But they absolutely should.

BREAKING: DHS contractors are toppling the last of four ancient cottonwoods to build double border walls across the San Rafael Valley.
The wall cuts through the key remaining wildlife corridor for endangered jaguars between Arizona and Sonora, where human border crossings are seldom seen.
A protest camp had occupied and protected this tree for more than 60 days, halting construction. The camp was raided and campers were arrested this morning.
This wall will effectively lock the remaining jaguars in the U.S. into solitary confinement, while permanently marring one of the last remaining wild places along the Arizona border.

VICTORY: A federal jury found Bexar County liable for running an unconstitutional traffic-stop scheme fueled by license plate surveillance and pretextual stops.
This is a major victory for privacy, accountability, and the #4thAmendment.

Guess who just defeated qualified immunity again?
@IJ and our client, Mario!
In Rosales v. Lewis, cops stopped Mario without legal justification, extended the stop, patted him down, and searched his pockets.
Today, the 5th Cir. held that all violated clearly established law.
That sounds like viewpoint discrimination but with extra steps lol
