We're heading back to March 2013, when Western Ferries' John Newth gave a fascinating presentation to around 100 members of the Clyde River Steamer Club to mark the company's 40th anniversary of operating on the Clyde. John, who was then Western Ferries' longest-serving engineer, took his audience through four decades of the company's history, sharing an insider's perspective on the development of the service, accompanied by a collection of photographs and illustrations. His presentation, Western on the Clyde – A Ruby Anniversary, offered a look at how Western Ferries had evolved since its early days and become an established part of life on the Clyde. The Club subsequently published a report of the evening, providing a fascinating record of the company's first 40 years. It's well worth a read for anyone interested in Western Ferries and the history of ferry services on the Clyde. Read the Clyde River Steamer Club's report of John's presentation and take a trip back through Western Ferries' first 40 years at: buff.ly/X2p9pJq

As the official #Clyde rainbow transporter we can be very busy at this time of year. @StephenAHenry caught us dropping one rainbow off while another one waited to be picked up…

We understand that disruption to any ferry service can be frustrating, particularly when additional travel arrangements are required. However, we would like to remind all passengers travelling on our service between Hunter's Quay and McInroy's Point that CalMac tickets are not valid for travel on Western Ferries. Passengers travelling on replacement bus services must have a valid Western Ferries ticket or purchase one for their crossing. Our crews are doing their best to accommodate passengers and keep our service running safely and efficiently. We ask that everyone treats our staff with courtesy and respect.
