The initial version of the Prolog WinDbg extension is out there: github.com/DumpAnalysis/Prol… The accompanying book will be published later today. Finally, I resumed work that I started more than 15 years ago... dumpanalysis.org/blog/index.…

the Sinclair QL GCC cross is currently frozen at GCC 2.95.3.. I cheated on Linux by saying I was a Dec Alpha as Linux to Linux & it's already a 64bit Little Endian targeting a 32bit Big Endian system. But macOS being its own thing, of course it breaks. .. a quick debug session and Astra nails the problem in 38 seconds.
I still can't believe people are in such doubt of the power of this stuff! I ask it nicely to go find and fix the others. Not even 6 minutes.
For people interested in old / fringe tech the value of AI cannot be a better value/addition to tooling! Sure, it didn't come up with the idea of saying 'Hello, I'm a Dec Alpha', but it totally ran with it! Stuff like this usually ended up with me running tools under so many layers of emulation and now.. Wow.
It's almost a crisis of purpose, like what am I even here for? Giving hints to the system?

ALT My recommendation: give the existing 2.95 compiler one focused diagnostic pass before abandoning it. For the longer-term replacement, establish the QDOS ABI requirements first, then build ELF-to-SROFF. GAS-to-JAS is a useful intermediate option, but syntax translation alone won’t make modern GCC compatible with the libraries we already have.

ALT here is the cross tools and the 'lib' directory which does contain the system libs and headers.. ive included all the gcc source tooling and patches i could find of the era, id suggest the htm instructions unpack gcc, patch and set your host to an alpha-linux being 64bit le and target the 68000 qdos.... that hpoefully gets you something
Bought a Numworks calculator - native uPython and OSS firmware, right? Then it turns out, courtesy of public education outrage, new versions lock fw updates down, and removed CAS. Because think of the kids…
@NumWorks how about selling an adult-rated (“engineering”) version?

One of the hidden benefits of reading old books is that they rescue you from the arrogance of the present.

Me: Have you missed the last 50 years of human-developed software?

Ported the USB CH375B DOS driver to Book386 Linux (2.2.26) - now you can enjoy USB storage on your Book386 Linux as well :)
Sources, binary and howto here astr0baby.online/Book386/ch3…
So the productivity boost from AI coding tools for systems stuff is obviously great, but it only works when used by folks who’ve actually done stuff and can review and guide/prompt. Ie basically can lead others.
Humans and AI need specs, but why would it need to be an industry spec and not YOUR OWN requirements? Is using an industry spec always the right choice?
