Human dignity is not conferred by the Census. It precedes every civil count. Apportionment of representation is a juridical act of the community. Excluding non-citizens and those without lawful permanent residency from that count does not deny that they are persons. It declines to treat non-membership as membership. The Catechism distinguishes the stranger’s natural dignity from the authority of political communities, for the common good, to regulate entry and participation. The bishops’ statement collapses that clear distinction.
U.S. bishops are opposing proposed Census Bureau rule changes for the 2030 census, arguing that excluding noncitizens without lawful permanent resident status from the apportionment count would effectively deny them recognition as persons. ewtnnews.com/world/us/u-s-bi…

With all due respect, “personhood” is not a magical trump card that overrides the basic principles of the republican form of government. One cannot conclude from the bare fact of personhood that anyone and everyone has a right to be counted in the census, to vote, or to stand for office.

"frictionless isolation"
In today's newsletter (link at the end!) I am trying to pull together a lot of threads in my work. I write about urbanism, broadly, and often on housing and zoning, but I also write fairly often about business, retail, and the scale at which business is done.

Is JD Vance a bridge? A thought provoking piece from @SohrabAhmari
Several years’ worth of conversations with @JDVance have convinced me that his central cause is preventing the Blade Runner scenario of immigration: population churn so high that there's no real demos. My latest, on what he sees in the French riots. unherd.com/2026/10/france-an…

Precisely
Macron is disgusting. Islamists have been slaughtering French Christians and French Jews for years, solely because of their identity. I'm so sick of him, and the lies he and his ruling class in Europe tell themselves about reality.

Seems important
This morning, two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, surrendered on arrest warrants after being charged with lying to Congress about their roles on the Foreign Influence Task Force during the 2020 election.  Floris and Benavides allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI’s Hunter Biden investigations, with one claiming they only learned about it from Wikipedia - despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop right before the election.   Lying to Congress by anyone strikes at the heart of our democratic system, but when senior FBI agents lie to Congress believing they are above the law, it’s time to bring the hammer of justice down on them. When senior officials entrusted with safeguarding our nation’s security choose deception over duty, they undermine the very institutions they swore to uphold.   Today’s action makes clear that no one is above the law, and we will hold accountable all who obstruct the truth.

The basic data on H-1B
Vice President JD Vance breaks down the data: "If you are working as an H-1B visa in the United States of America, you’re earning $20,000 less than an American citizen hired in the same position. If you were brought in by one of these foreign outsourcing firms, you’re making $48,000 less than an American citizen in a similar position. So I’m sure that everybody here understands the game that is being played. You bring in indentured servants from outside the country, you lay off American workers and, if you’re a corporation, you make a ton of money by under cutting the wages of American workers, replacing them with people who frankly shouldn’t be in the United States of America to begin with."

Well said from @TPCarney

There’s a deep, dark ideological — even anthropological — foundation to this belief. Christopher Lasch diagnosed the problem: the culture of narcissism. Michael Sandel more recently wrote of the “unencumbered self.” These pathologies have led us to believe that it is a sin to be a role player. Modern man has come to understand himself as fundamentally an atom — an individual whose identity is determined only by his own will and self-understanding. We reject the older idea that we find our identity in relation to others. washingtonexaminer.com/premi…

In fact!
Dialogue presupposes public order, whose restoration is the first problem to be solved.

Ahem. Five years ago I wrote a column about DNA test results that showed there was a 99.999998 percent chance that Ilhan Omar and her second husband Ahmed Elmi were siblings. A few hours before we went to press my informant was arrested by Biden's FBI. Funny that.

Zemmour may be right about this. The alliance didn't work out well in Iran.

Was reading about Carl Schmitt or some such person, one of the big political theorists. He said that when a civilization falls it looks back and tries to reestablish the old order but the old order is no longer possible. We need a new order, it may rhyme with the old but would be different. Definitely need firm hands on the wheel right now. Things may have to get a bit ugly, a little unjust, some pearl clutching. But how else to establish order ? If they pillage the Louvre I am going to have a merciless opinion of about 10% of the population of France. For such we could bring back exile, not just for perpetrators but their whole family. Not repatriation, actual exile. Let them consider their actions carefully.
Habsburgs are back with a simple plan: unite Central Europe to help turn the EU into an empire. "The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born"

What if France and the rest of Europe are unfixable? The whole Left liberal project is coming to an end. The debt is past the point of no return. The plain fact is the experiment did not work. Too many benefits and the taxes just choke off the economy and still can't pay for it all. Then what? 4th turning kind of stuff.

Important observation
Ah yes, Marine Le Pen is cooked because she has said she's not going to denaturalize and deport every single Muslim citizen of France right after she's elected. That makes her a total cuck compared to Trump, Farage, Lowe, AfD, who have all promised to do that. Oh wait, NONE of them have promised to do that, and in fact they ALL reject accusations that they plan to do that. So-called "right-wingers" on this website behaving like teenage girls, emotionally overreacting to everything they see on the internet.

The American founders are great because for almost every situation we find ourselves in: they thought and talked about and made recommendations for it. And it’s all documented.
Father of the Constitution, James Madison observed that naturalized citizens are more likely to practice or commit fraud, having less loyalty to America than their home countries. Madison advised strong restrictions on immigration & naturalization, for the good of the nation.
