8/8 Lovely to see the #MathsAnxiety research work in relation to teachers put together so professionally in this lovely book from the #MathsAnxietyTrust. Well done @dr_tom_hunt and Sue Skyrme.
7/8 Interesting that Alison Peacock from @CharteredColl says the solution to the #MathsAnxiety problem "starts at school" with the teachers. Clearly chicken-and-egg but the @Nat_Numeracy stats suggest it really starts at home, and this should be a big focus of #MultiplyLondon.
6/8 I'm in FE cos the first school I visited had a head (who was a maths teacher!) who preferred to hire crowd-controllers over specialists. No surprise at #MathsAnxietyTrust poll showing 12% of sec maths teachers have *no* confidence in their ability to *explain* maths!
5/8 Much as I hate “if you were to change just one thing…” questions, but I agree with Sam Sims from @Nat_Numeracy that *the* most important thing is to remove the built-in “percentile of failure” in the current curriculum. #FEmaths #GCSEresit #MathsAnxiety
4/8 Spot on @colinfoster77, from my conversations with hundreds of adult maths students over the years, far more damage has been done by the “maths show-off teacher” than the maths anxious teacher. #FEmaths #MathsAnxiety
3/8 “Why do I need to know this ****?” was my reaction when I struggled with maths at uni. It was many years later, when I started teaching maths, that I heard this again. It’s one of our natural reactions when things get difficult. #FEmaths #MathsAnxiety
