Just had a student-athlete receive his second college scholarship offer.
Our head coach spoke with the college coach, and these were the questions they asked:
• How is his home life?
• How are his academics?
• How is he in the weight room?
• Is he coachable?
• Does he pick up on concepts?
• Are his parents a problem?
• Is he a complainer?
• Does he run track?
• What is his legitimate size?
Not one question about his stats.
Not a single one.
College coaches are evaluating the whole person.
Character. Family. Academics. Work ethic. Coachability. Football IQ. Physical development. Attitude.
The scoreboard matters. The film matters. The production matters.
But when a college coach is deciding whether they want to invest in a young man for the next four years, who he is matters just as much as what he does on Friday night.
That’s why we talk so much about building the person, not just the player.
The game may get you noticed. Your character determines what happens next.

Your body language is a neon sign. It screams everything you’re not saying—your character, attitude, intentions & ability to handle adversity. When things get tough, keep your body language positive. It shows resilience, confidence & that you’re capable of overcoming challenges.

The NAIA isn’t a “level”. It’s an association.
D1, D2, and D3 aren’t “levels”. They are divisions within an association.
“JUCO” isn’t an association or level. There are at least 4 different associations in the US that have member institutions offering collegiate athletics comprised, or primarily comprised of 2-yr institutions.
Most people have no earthly idea what they are even talking about and are advising young people on decisions for their future.
And if anyone is confused, I left. I didn’t get let go or have some sort of scheduling conflict or feel like coaching wasn’t for me anymore. I left because of the way the program was being ran. Plain and simple.

Players. You can have all the swag, gear and drip you want. None of that matters if you're a bad teammate. The best swag you can show others is how you treat them.
Had to step away from my position as an assistant. I couldn’t keep supporting decisions I disagreed with. My values and morals weren’t aligning and those things will never be up for negotiation. Time for me to move on. #ProudAlumni

D3 schools handed out more academic money than most Power 4 programs gave in athletic scholarships last year. Some guys walked away with a better deal and more playing time. Division is not the offer. The opportunity is.

Division 1 basketball is HARD. Most young players don’t understand how hard. Every time you walk in the gym, you have to be completely on. You can’t be casual. The coaching is demanding and every detail matters. It’s kill or be killed. The earlier you understand this, the better.

You will encounter conflict, tribulation & discomfort but please remember GOD won't allow anything that u can't handle. GOD is preparing u for greater things therefore you got this and GOD is on your side. Learn from this & prosper. #COACHPRIME
I love all my kids. Whether I coached you for a few months or three years. You will always have my support.
And they know that.
I’ve had kids transfer. I’ve had kids quit. And each time my answer was and will always be, do what you feel is best for you and I will support you. Because I actually CARE about them. Ain’t no reason for me to make a kid feel guilty for choosing himself.
