Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Punnapra-Vayalar struggle, a resistance movement led by the organised working class of Alleppey (Alappuzha) and the Communist Party against medieval oppression by landlords, exploitation by coir factory owners, and the autocratic rule of the dewan of the princely state of Travancore.
The sacrifices of the hundreds of martyrs who died in Punnapra and Vayalar and of the thousands who had to undergo many sufferings were not in vain. The struggle led to the beginning of the process which led to the formation of the unified linguistic state of Keralam.

Stand with Jamia Students! Defend Campus Democracy!
CPI(ML) Liberation strongly condemns the Jamia Millia Islamia administration and police repression against students fighting for campus democracy and their rights, including the demand for students’ union elections.
Students have been on hunger strike to press for their demands. But instead of addressing their grievances, the administration has unleashed repression. Campus gates have been blockaded, the university shut down, and police and paramilitary forces deployed against students. Their sit-in site has been forcibly cleared, and several students have been assaulted and detained by the police.
The pattern is clear: the Modi-Shah regime fears a generation that refuses to be silenced. Every time young people raise their voices against injustice and demand their democratic rights, police and paramilitary forces are unleashed in an attempt to crush their protests.
The voices of students cannot be silenced through force and intimidation.
