MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN CRASH AT GREENWICH AND K-96 WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a 21-year-old Wichita man. At approximately 6:54 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, Sedgwick County 911 received calls about an injury accident at K96 and North Greenwich Road, involving an SUV and a motorcycle. Officers arrived at the scene and located a 21-year-old Bader Nassar lying in the roadway with Sedgwick County EMS and the Wichita Fire Department attempting life-saving measures, but Nassar was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 2017 GMC Acadia had exited westbound K-96 and began to turn left to northbound Greenwich Road when it collided with the motorcycle that was traveling westbound from Greenwich Court to westbound K-96. The 16-year-old driver and 41-year-old passenger of the GMC remained on the scene. At this point in the investigation, investigators believe that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The Wichita Police Department’s Accident Follow-Up Unit and Critical Accident Team responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation. Anyone with additional information who has not yet spoken with investigators is urged to contact the Wichita Police Department at 316-268-4407. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Case Number: 26C203811

WICHITA POLICE PROVIDE UPDATE ON STRYKER SPORTS COMPLEX INVESTIGATION WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita Police Department detectives have conducted nearly 50 interviews and continue examining vehicle evidence as they investigate the Oct. 17 incident at Stryker Sports Complex that killed two people and injured 10 others. Two lives were lost, and families have been forever changed. The impact reaches beyond those directly involved to witnesses, first responders and the broader community. We understand that families and our community want answers. Investigators are working to establish what happened through a thorough review of the available evidence. At approximately 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received multiple 911 calls reporting that a truck had driven onto a soccer field during a match. Wichita police officers, Sedgwick County EMS and Wichita Fire Department personnel responded. Cole Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, both of McPherson, died at the scene. Ten other people, ranging in age from 5 to 68, were injured and transported to area hospitals. We are not providing an update on the surviving victim’s conditions at this time. Detectives interviewed nearly 50 witnesses and others involved, with additional interviews ongoing. Investigators are also inspecting the truck, analyzing available vehicle data and continuing investigative work at Stryker Sports Complex. They are working closely with the Regional Forensic Science Center and awaiting official, peer-reviewed toxicology results. The driver, a 34-year-old woman from Garden City, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers when they arrived. She continues to cooperate with investigators. Based on the information available Sunday morning, and after consultation with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, investigators did not have probable cause to arrest the driver. She was released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Her release does not represent a final determination about whether criminal charges are appropriate. “We know that this case has captured the attention of people all over the country, and many of those people have strong opinions about the incident even though they do not have direct knowledge of what occurred,” Chief Joe Sullivan said. “We recognize that the decision the law and constitution required us to make on Sunday morning may not be popular. We swear an oath to support the laws of the State of Kansas and the Constitution of the United States and no one in the Wichita Police Department takes that oath for granted.” WPD is also addressing false claims circulating online and in news coverage. Based on information available to investigators, claims that the driver is in the country illegally are false. Additionally, she and her husband are not, and have never been, associated with the Wichita Police Department, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, or any other law enforcement agency that we are currently aware of. Investigators have found no documented criminal history for the driver. She had a valid driver’s license and no outstanding arrest warrants. WPD has not publicly identified the driver. Consistent with its practice, the department does not identify people involved in investigations who have not been arrested or charged. We understand the public’s interest and the concern surrounding this investigation. But spreading rumors and unverified accusations adds confusion, causes further pain for grieving families and harms people who have no connection to this case. We ask the public to rely on WPD’s official updates for confirmed information about the investigation. The department remains focused on the victims, their families and a complete investigation. Detectives will provide their findings to the District Attorney’s Office for a determination of whether criminal charges are appropriate. Additional information may be released after the district attorney makes a formal charging decision. Case Number: 26C200415

TWO KILLED, 10 INJURED AFTER PICKUP DRIVES ONTO SOCCER FIELDS AT STRYKER SPORTS COMPLEX WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Police Department is investigating a crash that killed two people, including a 6-year-old boy, and injured 10 others Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck drove onto soccer fields at Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita. At approximately 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, Sedgwick County 911 received multiple calls reporting that a vehicle had driven onto soccer fields at Stryker Sports Complex, 2999 N. Greenwich Road, striking several people. The preliminary investigation indicates a Chevrolet pickup driven by a 34-year-old woman was parked in a parking space near the soccer fields before it drove onto one of the fields, striking multiple children and adults. Two juveniles, both children of the driver, were inside the pickup at the time of the crash. The driver also had another child who was playing soccer on another field at the complex. Emergency personnel responded and immediately began providing medical care to those injured. Despite lifesaving efforts, two people died at the scene. They have been identified as 6-year-old Adrian Cole and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, both of McPherson, Kansas. The two victims were not related. Ten people injured in the crash were transported to Ascension Via Christi and Wesley Medical Center with injuries described as noncritical. An additional 61-year-old woman was transported after experiencing medical complications unrelated to traumatic injuries, bringing the total number of people transported to local hospitals to 11. The ages and genders of the 10 people injured in the crash are: A 5-year-old girl A 5-year-old boy Two 8-year-old boys A 9-year-old girl A 28-year-old woman A 32-year-old man A 59-year-old woman A 65-year-old woman A 68-year-old man Investigators interviewed more than 30 witnesses to the incident, including the two juveniles who were inside the pickup at the time of the crash, before interviewing the driver. Following the interviews, investigators consulted with the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office. The 34-year-old driver was subsequently released pending the results of toxicology testing and a mechanical examination of the vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan expressed his condolences to the families, and everyone affected by the tragedy. "Our hearts are with the families of Adrian and Nicholas as they face an unimaginable loss. What should have been a day of children playing soccer and families spending time together ended in tragedy," Sullivan said. "We are also thinking about those who were injured, their loved ones and everyone who witnessed what happened. We know this tragedy has affected many people throughout our community, and we want those families to know they are not alone. Our officers and investigators will continue working to understand exactly what happened." The Wichita Police Department also extends its sincere appreciation to the community members who immediately stepped forward to help those injured before emergency crews arrived. During an incredibly difficult situation, their willingness to help others demonstrated the compassion and care within our community. Responding agencies included the Wichita Police Department, Wichita Fire Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County EMS and Bel Aire Police Department. Mental Health and Community Support Resources We recognize that a tragedy like this can have a lasting emotional impact on the families involved, those who witnessed the incident, first responders and others throughout our community. We encourage anyone who may be struggling with what happened to reach out for support. Mental health services are available through Sedgwick County COMCARE.
