Love this spot for Champagnie after a solid Game 1. Despite shooting just 4/12 from the field, he finished the game with 21 PRA. Obviously, no Fox and double-OT in Game 1, so his minutes are a little skewed, but his production was very repeatable.
In Game 1, Champagnie was mostly guarded by Chet, who was roaming off and bringing help on the weak side. This led to 10 of his 12 FGAs being deemed “open” to “wide-open”. Don’t anticipate much changing matchup-wise in Game 2, as Daigneault had this to say postgame, “I thought we defended well enough to win the game. Offense is where we can improve from tonight more so than defense.”
I also love the rebound upside for Champagnie in this one. Wemby presents some incredible matchup problems for OKC, one of which is the inability to play IHart for extended stretches. With IHart off the floor, OKC becomes a much less effective rebounding team. Champagnie is a very capable rebounder, and his matchups allow him to roam and pick up easy weakside rebounds. In Game 1, he spent most of his time matched up across from Dort and Caruso, and racked up 9 rebounds (all 9 in regulation).
