Whenever you feel down about your contribution to the world, remember Thomas Midgley Jr., the inventor of both leaded gasoline and freon.

4 days spent waiting for @Microsoft to restore my hacked account. Obviously despite having the old recovery email, phone number, Authenticator account, IP address, and location I’m more shady than the guy with a new IP address, location and (random letters)@ mail-mine .ru email

Oh joy, SSRIs are trending on UK twitter. I'm sure it is mostly informed and enlightening discussion and not a bunch of reactionary "antidepressants bad" tweets from people who don't know the difference between a neuron and a neurotransmitter.
It was a pleasure to write about this impressive software created by Howarth and Goodman at Cambridge. My first ever @ChemistryWorld story!
To the passengers flying out of Philadelphia with their two cats, you made my day. Seeing your kitties’ sweet faces was a great distraction from airport stress and sadness over the end of my first visit with US-based family since COVID. Give Jack and Khaleesi extra pets for me!

things lockdown has taught me - greycat likes when I whisper "cellulosic fibre" in his ear.
Now that his sutures don’t look anywhere near as angry, and his face fur is starting to grow back, here is a picture of my kitty in his cone of shame. His eyes are definitely opening wider and seeming less irritated than they were before his eyelid surgery!

The vet is pleased with how he’s healing up. He has to keep the cone on through the weekend, but after that is free.
My 14-year-old Maine Coon cat had to get an eye lift yesterday because his lashes kept rubbing against his eyes. I took today off to monitor him while he metabolised the last of the anaesthesia. He keeps trying to nuzzle my face, forgetting that he’s wearing a cone of shame.
3
No photo of his face right now - he’s looking a bit gruesome, and will continue to do so until his stitches are removed and the fur around his eyes grows back. But this is my arm right now.

My current level of scientific pettiness is getting annoyed that news headlines keep mentioning Boris Johnson failing to pull on “latex gloves” which are CLEARLY nitrile gloves.
