Mary Holley, 101, a resident at Royal Star & Garter Surbiton Home, met her husband Roy in 1939. They were apart for three years during WW2 while Roy served in the Far East, keeping in touch only through heavily censored letters. In 1944, Roy returned home, two days later they married, before he left again to prepare for D-Day.
This week, as we mark 80 years since VJ Day, the end of the war in the Pacific, Mary reflects on the hope and love that carried her through. 🇬🇧❤️

This week, we remember the heroes of the Far East campaign who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🕊️
Subedar Major Kalu Sing Chhetri endured three years in captivity and was honoured for his bravery with the Military Cross.
His legacy of courage lives on through his family, with both his son and grandson serving in the British Army. 🇬🇧
