Everyone, and I mean everyone, knocks Wilt to this day for not dominating G7 v injured Willis (27 minutes, two baskets at the outset). Jerry West told me shortly before he died he was amazed Wilt played 18 playoff games after playing but 12 in regular season due to surgery.

Wilt wore a heavy, restrictive knee brace. It allowed him to run up and down the floor in a straight line, but heavily compromised his side-to-side (lateral) movement. The Knicks actively tried to exploit this by pulling him away from the basket.
His right knee routinely filled with fluid and swelled up significantly after games. He required constant icing and doctors had to drain the fluid to keep him mobile enough to play.
Because of how quickly he returned to action, the muscles supporting his right knee—specifically his quadriceps—had not fully rebuilt or regained their pre-injury strength.
Wilt acknowledged that he had permanently lost his explosive, vertical leap after the injury, forcing him to adapt his game to rely more heavily on positioning, passing, and rebounding.

Wilt Chamberlain had 22 playoff games with 35+ points and 15+ rebounds. At least six and probably more in which his team credited him w. 5+ blocks, even though the NBA didn’t track those prior to 1973-74. sports-reference.com/stathea…

Darrall Imhoff: the man who had the front-row seat (and the hardest job) for Wilt's 100-point game. 😂

I sincerely don’t think Daddy and Wilt wanted to fight! I was looking at this clip with @Lawrence who pointed out their mutual reluctance to me!

Wilt played against Russell, Thurmond, Kareem, Reed, Bellamy.
Hakeem was facing David Robinson and Shaq in a single playoff run.
Jokic has faced Gobert 2x, Zubac, and Chet/Hartenstein.

The Jerry West documentary that just dropped on Amazon tonight brought me to tears. I’m stunned at how well-made this documentary was & I’m more stunned by the life this man lived. You don’t need to be a basketball fan to draw inspiration from Jerry West. What a documentary.

People around the sport feared Wilt Chamberlain’s dominance might destroy the NBA.
They widened the free-throw lane and made changes involving inbounding the ball and offensive goaltending. They also banned dunking from the free-throw line.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Wilt Chamberlain postage stamps being issued. Chamberlain is the first NBA player to have his image on a U.S. Postage Stamp! The column and the stamps are now archived in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.

Alex Hannum left for the ABA, and all Wilt wanted was a good coach for the team, preferably Frank McGuire or Bill Sharman, and he would have stayed in Philadelphia. 76ers GM Jack Ramsay didn’t offer enough money to hire Frank McGuire.

Jerry West plays against the St. Louis Hawks with two black eyes, a nose so broken he could hardly breathe, and three stitches in his left eyelid.
Richie Guerin on West:
“He’s a great competitor, playing with that busted nose. He just keeps coming at you.”

Jerry West and Wilt. Those were my two guys as a kid. I couldn’t mimic The Dipper’s game but I sure practiced thousands of these pull up jumpers. RIP Mr. Clutch. You were amazing to to watch and thanks for providing everlasting memories

Am stunned and saddened beyond words to learn of the passing of Jerry West. He was one of my deepest connections to my own father, himself a two-handed set shooter from the hills of Southern West Virginia.
