Tim’s gonna say that this is a vocal minority acting like him and his little ai clan aren’t a silent minority to the big steam
EPIC vs STEAM +AI — 139,568 VOTES Following Tim Sweeney's statements about AI in gaming, a user made a viral poll asking people if they would chose Epic with AI made only games, or Steam with human made only games. After 139,568 Votes: • 98.4% → Steam • 1.6% → Epic Games

I’d fucking mog your ass in a stroop test
You can dislike AI-generated art without insulting the person who created it. Somewhere along the way, people confused having an opinion with having permission to be cruel.

Key art, concept art, and general art made for a game is the forefront of what a player sees when looking at your product. It is one of the biggest hooks that is meant to grab a players attention. It shows the games content. Characters, world, all in a space appealing to the consumers eyes. While I believe code should be handled mainly by people. No one looks at code to see if they want to play your game. They look at your key art, trailers, and in game screenshots. Ai is a disingenuous way of displaying these factors. It’s a logic machine, it’s going to build the scene based of what it thinks looks good which. Arguably most people won’t find appealing ( unless they are under the age of 15 and play Fortnite and Roblox where all the bright colors are ). While you can vibe your way to a finished product code wise with less people being upset at you. Cutting the corners on what’s supposed to be the developers illustration on the product and world thay they built inside of it will make most players assume that you would rather have the logic machine do basically all of the heavy lifting while you sit back and collect the dough, and that your not there to build a community for the product you want to release.
Devs, real talk: If a player found out your game used AI for some of the code, would that change anything for them? What about AI for art? Why do people treat those two so differently?

Instantly counters your own argument because professionals may use credits to bring on new people. So yes, credit screens are absolutely needed. Not to mention it is a huge clear and concise receipt of who you was involved in your project and what they did. To prevent those who had nothing to do with your works to claim they did.
Um, no it doesn't, nobody ever reads those. Maybe professionals do when they want to hire another professional for movie production, but consumers don't.

If you ask Claude to make a material, a texture, code, and its in the shipped product, then it’s work went into the product, so my analogy still works
AI doesn't "go into a product". It's not part of the end product. If you want food analogy, you're talking about ovens and pans, not ingredients.

I have my fair share of vibecoded dogshit I’ve “made” ( aka have an ai generate a working thing based off instructions given by a complete imbecile ). I don’t make these out of passion, I don’t make them to be proud of, I have an ai make them to solve a problem I didn’t care enough to. That’s the issue with GenAI, it gives too much room to people who do not care about the products they make to infiltrate spaces that people do care about. It allows anyone to take any idea on paper and turn it into something that in all honesty probably shouldn’t exist. It allows people with poor ideas to create poorly botched products. While big corporations can hold the arguments that it speeds up workflows and allows for quicker game development, that’s the very problem. Theres no time for people to take time on the games they want to make, they can take their day one idea and ship it within a weekend, then complain when people say the idea wasn’t good in the first place because the AI is programmed against that. Many developers don’t know when an idea just isn’t really good. This “Anti-Ai” fight isn’t just about jobs being taken from people. It’s about the influx of people who create generally bad products that appeals to a niche but “good enough” audience. We need quality, but companies are pushing for quantity. We want games. Not “content”

What Tim Sweeney is trying to do to steam is the same thing as a food company trying to hide what goes into their products. Tim knows AI is a corner cutter, he also knows people don’t like corners cut. It’s not about using tools that help developers. It’s about hiding the laziness that went into a game to produce a lower quality and generic product that attracts kids because anyone above the age of 14 wouldn’t resort to a UEFN map as a viable way to pass the time.
Political?! If AI bros actually believed AI was good they'd be writing like this 😭 Tim has asked for more developers using AI to speak up, and is now saying that Steam is wrong for asking for disclosure and wants to hide it?

Ai bros are all about making every single task that comes across them quicker. Do these people just like, sit around all day and just stare at gpt completing tasks? These people don’t seem fun to hang around

Tim Sweeney when consumers want transparency and clarity from the developers making the media they want to consume.
Replying to @mattworkman
Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

Despite my departure from publishing maps, I do like fucking around with uefn in my free time, I’ll still make time for 3D art as well as 2D art I may post on a new account. I’ll also continue to provide support for Render Toolkit so creators who do wish to stay on Fortnite can use it for their media creating needs.

A company and engine that used to be respected would’ve considered having the updated FAQ before launching the Megajam. Is this company being ran by teens or something?!
