ALT The runway then belonged to our incredible University of the Witwatersrand students! With 10 participants, the showcase brought creativity, innovation and sustainability together as students transformed everyday waste into wearable fashion. From paper and plastic bags to packaging from Woolworths, PEP and other retailers, these young creatives showed us that what we often throw away can become something extraordinary. What stood out most was the inspiration behind each creation. Students shared powerful messages about protecting our planet, reminding us how plastic pollution threatens wildlife and damages our natural environments. One plastic item may seem insignificant, but when millions are discarded carelessly, the consequences can be devastating. #Sustainability starts with the choices we make every day. By reducing single-use plastics, reusing materials and recycling responsibly, we can conserve natural resources, reduce pollution and contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet.

ALT Leadership, Innovation, and Sustainability at Wits We were honoured to welcome Wits Chancellor, Dr Judy Nobuhle Dlamini, to the #EnvironmentalSustainabilityExhibition, where she graced our sustainability session and engaged with the inspiring work and ideas being showcased. The session featured a Wits student who shared insights on the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and how these global goals can be translated into practical solutions within the university environment. From innovative products made using recycled plastic bottles to a plastic garden bench created from recyclable materials, the session demonstrated how sustainability can move beyond conversation and become tangible action. The session was expertly facilitated by Phumzile Mathabe, creating an engaging space for dialogue around sustainability, innovation and the role each of us can play in building a more sustainable future. A special highlight was also capturing a picture moment with Dr Dlamini and the Environment
