Free Lee Cheuk-yan and Chow Hang-tung!
🌎 Global unions stand with Lee Cheuk-yan With the verdict in their national security trial due this Friday, 21 August, 90 trade unions across sectors and countries are demanding the immediate release of Lee Cheuk-yan and Chow Hang-tung, condemning Hong Kong’s crackdown on unionists and pro-democracy voices. The Council of Global Unions, representing more than 200 million workers worldwide, has launched a global petition calling for their unconditional release and condemning the prosecution of Lee as a violation of fundamental rights. From every corner of the world, trade unions are sending a clear message: repression of democracy and trade union rights will not be accepted. Freedom of association is a human right, not a crime. ✊ The verdict will be closely watched by trade unions, labour organisations and human rights defenders around the world. Full: bit.ly/3U2JJiE

The reports were confirmed on Sunday: Hong Kong’s most prominent working-class political party, the League of Social Democrats, has dissolved. A dark day, but as they say themselves, not the end. Struggle continues, and so does our solidarity. workersagainsttheccp.org/new…

A dark day. Hong Kong's foremost working-class party has finally been suppressed by the dictatorship. But no tyrant can ever totally stamp out the embers of democratic class struggle. Our solidarity remains with workers & oppressed people in China & HK, who will rise again.
💔 End of an era. The League of Social Democrats—one of Hong Kong’s last pro-democracy parties—is set to disband, marking the 3rd major opposition group to fold since the #NSL. From street booths to Labour Day protests, they kept speaking when few still could. They stood for grassroots, justice, and speaking truth, long after many had gone silent. Now, silence grows. @HKFP : bit.ly/3FUaa3r #HongKong #LSD #FreeHK #Democracy

Workers' rights activist Wang Jianbing has been released! But his health bears the scars of imprisonment. And pressure must continue to ensure he is free of harassment and restrictions - and to free his friend, feminist Huang Xueqin, and all other the other political prisoners!
