All social media is media in the mode of the network consciousness. Media for which the true referent is not the object or idea being depicted, but a self-reflection of every other node in dra network itself. The particular content of each node is simply an ancestral inheritance

Interlocution between nodes is of primary importance, and particular intellectual or aesthetic content is only useful insofar as it facilitates engagement. Beyond a quite superficial level, "stickiness" at any point in the network acts as detriment

Thus the nodal network is antagonistic to the aims of the individual, and operates in the mode of extraction. The individual labours under the illusion the network offers some personal benefit, that there is a mutual exchange going on

Pigeons definitely have gotten worse at flying in my lifetime. Pigeon society has become decadent

One thing I will say for the physical media crowd: I can sit down with an actual book & an hour or two will go by Just Like That, but reading a pdf for ten minutes without distraction feels like it takes actual effort

Ideologies are fantasies that strive for the illusion of Objective Truth by making themselves one's default narrative frame. Thus every ideology must condemn a large variety of competing fantasies using a variety of magic terms: degenerate, problematic, impractical, childish etc

One clever move that can be done is to freely offer defanged facsimiles of competing fantasies as a harmless diversion & nothing more. To cement the idea "these are just daydreams, and not something w/ actual transformative potential" rather than making them forbidden fruit

a person flipping between being extremely optimistic & extremely pessimistic about the future on like a weekly basis quickly starts to look very silly to me in a way that'd be hard to undo

Cyclic History is one of those things where when you first hear about it, it sounds like an invitation to secret knowledge, but it actually conditions one to think *less*, to just smugly sit back & go "I've seen this before..." Probably many things like this

"Doomers Right // Heeded Them": congratz u have unlocked despair faster, Go You "Doomers Right // Ignored Them": false hope gives solace for many years "Doomers Wrong // Ignored Them": most satisfying victory "Doomers Wrong // Heeded Them": worst defeat, less than human

Perhaps the real False Consciousness is the mind's tendency to, no matter how unsatisfactory the situation, construct narratives that "this is how things must be done" & "any attempt to do it differently is destined to fail", merely out of short-term convenience

Agency interpreted either as a Primordial Willing that exists prior to the mechanistic animal mind, that gets papered over by it - or as some kind of higher abstract ordering principle constructed out of the animal mind, but no longer beholden to it

Avoid temptation to reframe unconscious biases (eg one's level of risk tolerance or aversion) as objective moral/political Good Sense that has been consciously eked out. Do not develop Stockholm syndrome for this cluster of bad habits you call your identity

Both "higher mind" & "subconscious" construct a narrative of subjective exp as this layered thing, of which the "Me, Right Now" layer is but one (usually superficial) aspect. Presumably both narratives share certain imperatives, and also have points of divergence

The subconscious is a more mundane framing, suggesting that individuated consciousness is constructed out of a large number of mechanical impulses, and that coming to understand these impulses gives one a greater degree of control in their life

Worth noting that, though subconscious typically shies away from spiritual notions such as "the mind creates reality", there is still the implication of some kind of primordial logic that dictates all things, which one might hope to understand and control

(quicktime version just to test if it still has that annoying gap at the end)
