“I remember when my dad travelled to Türkiye to look for for a job for better life opportunities. I didn’t like it. It was like no one was there to support us. I needed to have my father by my side to help me, to motivate me, and to stand by me. But with time and when he had returned, I felt complete confidence to have all my family together in the same house. But when they are away, I feel broken, I talk less, and I become introverted.” Mahmoud, 17, a Syrian refugee in Jordan, said. Today is Father’s Day. Fathers play an important role in children’s lives. Just like for young Mahmoud, fathers are there to care, support, teach, encourage, and help create a sense of completeness and stability within the family. On this occasion, we celebrate all fathers around the world and the invaluable role they play in their children’s lives. We also share a collection of photos from throughout the years featuring the fathers and children we have had the privilege to stand alongside. For this occasion, we also invite you to write a warm note to your father and tag him in the comments. A few heartfelt words can mean the world and may just make his day. #FathersDay #MyDadMyHero #BestDadEver #Fatherhood #WorldVision

Even after returning to their home country, children continue to struggle, our new policy brief on Ukrainian and Syrian returnees found. “After we returned [from Türkiye to Syria], the nightmares and anxiety increased. I noticed that two of my children were afraid at night,” said one caregiver. Children need psychological and psychosocial support after they return to make sure they can enjoy fulfilling childhoods and recover from the emotional toll and trauma they have experienced. Many families who have returned to Ukraine can access schools, healthcare, and public services, but children continue to live with insecurity, air raid alerts, damaged infrastructure, and the ongoing impacts of war on their daily lives. World Vision's new policy brief explores what happens after families return. Through conversations with children, young people, and caregivers in Ukraine and Syria, we found that return is not the end of displacement — it is often the beginning of a new journey towards recovery, stability, and hope. Many Syrian children are returning to communities where homes, schools, health facilities, water systems, and livelihoods have been destroyed or severely damaged. Families are rebuilding their lives in environments where humanitarian and recovery needs remain immense. Support should not end when families return home. In World Vision's new policy brief, children and caregivers told us they need protection, services, opportunities, and sustained support to rebuild their lives and futures. “Mama, why can’t I go to school like the other girls?” asked seven-year-old Amal* to her mother Samia* in northwest Syria. The only response she was able to give at the time was a long, silent hug. 🫂 After the family was displaced from their home, they began living in a displacement camp. Amal was forced to pause her education for two years until @WorldVisionSR stepped in. Learn how #WorldVision is providing Amal and other children the education they deserve. *Names changed to protect identities

Today is #WorldRefugeeDay. I am spending it in Syria with some of the 600,000 people who have returned from neighbouring countries after 14 years of conflict. Syria today is where returning Syrians — given security, opportunities and support — can finally stop being refugees.

After 14 years of conflict & isolation, poverty and malnutrition in North Central #Syria is shocking. @WorldVision has been working with our partners to rehabilitate schools, clinics and water systems but is only a fraction of what is urgently needed to make meaningful impact.
