Shipments down over 20 percent in one quarter, mostly because of RAM prices. If my PC still runs my games fine, I'd keep it and wait this one out

Good news for me, half of what AI tools give me comes back as markdown anyway. Pasting it into Discord without asterisks everywhere saves some cleanup

Being able to send it straight to Google Sites saves the whole copy and rebuild step. I'd still go through what it built before sharing it with anyone

On a normal map a plantation and an old natural forest both just look green. Splitting them at 10m makes it a lot harder to hide where the natural forest is going
Not all forests are equal, and now we can map the difference. 🌳 Meet Forest Typology (ForTy): a 10m map of natural, planted, and farmed forests to help identify deforestation and protect the forests that matter most. 🧵

I use AI tools a lot, but giving one my password manager is a big step. At least make it ask me before every single login
If you're willing to let AI book or buy things on your behalf, 1Password just made that easier.

So it was a waiting room fish tank the whole time. Fits, those tanks are there to keep people calm while they wait

Former PC technician question. When was the last time you opened your PC and cleaned the dust out of the fans?

Eight melted cards in two days at one shop. Until the connector gets fixed, I'd push the plug in until it clicks and keep the cable from bending right at the plug

Cutting branches next to the tracks is risky work for a person, so good to see a machine take that over. It does look a lot like R.O.B. too
Japan has unveiled the ZX-3, a robot railway repair robot that has a big chainsaw and an even bigger claw that will help cut tree branches and make repairs along the track.

A slimmer two slot cooler running 10 to 15 degrees hotter is no surprise. With them stacked that close, I'd add more airflow at the bottom of that case
en.gamegpu.com/news/zhelezo/… An enthusiast installed both the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition and the professional workstation card RTX PRO 6000 into a single PC build to clearly demonstrate their physical dimensions side by side. The photos revealed that both high end graphics cards share a very similar footprint. However, the professional board features a slimmer dual slot design, whereas the consumer flagship relies on a larger heatsink built for intensive gaming. Hands on thermal tests in modern gaming scenarios confirmed that the GeForce RTX 5090 runs 10–15°C cooler than the enterprise model due to its dedicated cooling solution. #NVIDIA #RTX5090 #RTXPRO6000 #Hardware #PCBuild #GPU #Gaming

Letting an AI agent pay for things on its own is where I'd keep approval on for every order. Good that they built spending controls in from the start
As Amazon blocks AI agents from shopping on its site, Walmart is taking the opposite approach, introducing new technology that lets AI agents make purchases on customers' behalf, with controls over spending and transaction approvals. spr.ly/6019BHXyoW

Going around the Moon and then back to normal days on Earth. I'll put this one on just to hear how they got used to that again
"I just hear over and over again: 'I felt like I went on the mission with you'." Artemis II's Jeremy Hansen and Victor Glover reflect on their historic trip around the Moon — and how life on Earth has been since — in our latest Houston We Have A Podcast: go.nasa.gov/4dSkerm

Going from a gene linked to a rare disease to one specific thing to test, in 32 minutes. Now it has to hold up in the lab, and in people after that
GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration? DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it. That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets. openai.com/index/scaling-ai-…

My @syntraab course book says to wash your hands in front of the client before every session. That way they see hygiene matters to you without you saying anything. Same paragraph says to keep your nails short, so the client never feels sharp nails.

Getting 36 papers out of one set of AI tools in 3 months is fast. I'll trust them more once other teams have checked the results
Borrowing an idea from one research discipline to solve a thorny problem in another is an age-old scientific trick. Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection, for example, famously inspired algorithms in computer science that “evolve” solutions to complex problems. But such clever leaps are fleetingly rare. For #AI, however, hopping between fields can be a breeze. Researchers highlighted that ability with the release of 36 preprints produced with a single suite of AI tools called BootLoops. The so-called harness can be used with any large language model, such as Anthropic’s Claude or OpenAI’s ChatGPT. And in just 3 months, researchers used Claude outfitted with BootLoops to cross-pollinate at a massive scale, spotting—and precisely solving—problems in seemingly unrelated fields that share the same mathematical structures. The resulting papers range widely, from figuring out the age of sunspots, to analyzing government health policies, to attempting to decipher a mysterious medieval manuscript.
