Security updates for XRP CHESS.
Three Next.js security advisories were published today, two of them remote code execution bugs. Vercel's fixes are in 16.4.1 and 15.5.28.
We did a full check of the site, the game service and the Discord bot, then went through each advisory against how the site is built. None of them reached us. The image bug needs an older sharp library with SVG optimization turned on, and we have neither. The second bug is in a Next feature called "use cache", which we do not use. The site is cached in other ways, and none of them are that feature. We do not use Server Actions either. No player data was exposed. We moved to the patched version anyway, tested it on a copy first, and put it live this afternoon between games.
The check also found that password sign-in was relying on the network-level limit alone. It now has its own limit on repeated attempts. Normal sign-ins are not affected and there is nothing you need to do.
Also new today: xrpchess.xyz/changelog lists every public change to the site, the game service and the bot since the first build, with search and a filter for the big milestones. Today's updates are already in there.
If you run Next.js, update to 16.4.1 or 15.5.28 today.
