It was a pleasure and honor to talk with the thoughtful and engaging @JohnnyFoxe about the amazing nematode #celegans and the work we’ve been doing in the lab. If you’ve got half an hour to kill and want to hear me blather on about worms, give it a listen!
What happens in the male C. elegans brain when the urge to find a mate overrides the basic need to eat? And how can these insights inform our understanding of sex differences in human health and disease susceptibility? 👉youtu.be/eC6bK4HVOTU Listen to the latest Neuroscience Perspectives with @JohnnyFoxe & guest @doug_p

This was a fun student-led project. In #Celegans grown in adverse environments, daf-16 promotes entry into a stress-resistant diapause stage called dauer. We use a second mutation, daf-7, to induce daf-16 mutant larvae into dauer, but some larvae bypass dauer formation. 1/3

@cmichBIO undergrad Juanez Lindsay, mentored by grad student @MJWirick, used the ets-10p::gfp L2d marker and found that daf-16; daf-7 mutants enter a partial L2d stage. Furthermore, expression of the marker partially predicts which larvae will enter dauer. #UndergradResearch 3/3
