Here we go again🙄🙄🙄.......Citizens’ group wants tolls

Connecticut state retirees can keep their current health plan with no monthly plan premium. Their unions negotiated another option, but anyone choosing it pays an extra $379 a month.
Now a state retiree group wants savings promised to taxpayers used to lower that bill. They get to choose their coverage. Should you have to pay more for that choice?

CT Paid Leave paid roughly $104 in benefits for every $100 collected from workers’ checks last fiscal year. Nearly half its reserves could be gone by 2029.
Workers don’t get to skip the deduction. Lawmakers shouldn’t get to skip the explanation.

Will Connecticut see higher taxes, new fines or new fees? “I sure as hell hope not,” Gov. Lamont told Chaz and AJ.
Taxpayers share the sentiment. But Hartford already charges us to earn, drive, work and transfer wealth. Surely a few of those charges deserve a second look — and perhaps a farewell.
Could we lose a few? Sure as hell hope so

Your paycheck takes a hit. Your gas tank takes a hit. Even lunch comes with a little something for Hartford.

Gov. Hochul announces NY is opting in to the federal tax-credit scholarship program.
@GovNedLamont Opportunity is coming to NY. Let’s bring it to CT.
Don’t leave Connecticut kids behind. Give them the same chance.

Lamont wanted Washington to explain the federal scholarship tax credit before Connecticut signed up. Treasury and the IRS delivered.
The scholarships could help eligible public and private school students pay for tutoring, books and tuition without taking a penny from Connecticut’s public school budgets. The proposed regulations include audits and reporting requirements, too.
Now Lamont wants more assurances. What’s still missing?
Let’s not make “available in other states” the fine print on the help a Connecticut parent can’t afford and a child can’t afford to miss.

Who knew? Trying to LEGISLATE higher pay hurts the very people politicians are trying to help.
Seattle city council wanted to help "exploited" gig workers.
So they forced delivery apps to pay drivers MORE.
"I wouldn’t assume that prices are going to go up," said one politician.
But prices DID go up.
@judgeglock of @ManhattanInst explains how regulation backfired:
Who Sets Prices? How Minimum Wage Broke the Gig Work Economy
Activists in Seattle said app-based gig workers were being exploited. So politicians eagerly came to the rescue with a new $26 minimum wage. Did it work? No.
Connecticut is writing its energy playbook for the next four years. On the table: the future of natural gas, a major push toward electrification, new demand from data centers, utility-rate changes and who pays for it all.
Advocacy groups are pushing to stop expanding natural gas and move more homes onto electric heat—even though natural gas still generates half of New England’s electricity.
Public comments are due Oct. 16. Here’s what is at stake and why ratepayers should weigh in.

Offshore wind’s big payoff? Five bucks a month—by 2050.
And that’s not a lower electric bill. It’s the difference between two projected cost increases.
Always read the fine print.

Today marks the anniversary of Connecticut’s Oct. 5, 1991, anti-income-tax rally. Here’s to the people who showed up and made themselves heard.
Thirty-five years later, the rally is in the history books. The reason for it is still on your pay stub.

💡 Connecticut’s electric bills are painful enough. DEEP wants tougher RGGI rules, which make power plants pay for carbon emissions - costs that can reach your bill.
Before approving them, lawmakers should demand the full accounting and put bill relief first.

Hartford’s AI law is still rolling out, and lawmakers are already talking about the next one.
Where would you draw the line: what AI use needs a rule, and what should government leave alone?🤔

"Court Victory Vindicates Union Members and Exposes Years of Government Neglect," @YankeeInstitute's @frankriccidc writes.
"For years, Connecticut union members were denied a basic right guaranteed under state law: the ability to see how their dues money was being spent."
"The problem was never a lack of transparency laws. The problem was that Connecticut’s Department of Labor refused to enforce them."
Connecticut hit a record for private-sector payroll jobs.
At the same time, estimated resident employment fell by 72,400 from a year ago.
Both are true — and they paint a much more complicated picture of Connecticut’s labor market than any single headline number.
What do you make of the disconnect?

Teachers’ unions in Connecticut continue to mobilize against Trump’s federal school choice program, despite advocates saying there is “no downside.”
The National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers launched a campaign this summer urging Democratic governors to opt out of the Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC).

Wall Street just told Connecticut: keep the fiscal guardrails and you might get a credit upgrade.
Hartford is already talking about loosening them.
What should get cut before lawmakers touch the rules that got us here?

The nation’s largest teachers union has found a new threat: CT kids getting federal scholarship help with tutoring, transportation, special needs services and more.
The NEA wants Lamont to reject it. For the children, obviously.
Imagine the horror if a kid actually got help.
