Red Sox started 1900s w 5 WS titles before '18, then got cheap, let best player leave for $ reasons. Didn't win again that century. Now start 2000s w/ 4 WS & let best talent leave for $ reasons. Here's hoping my descendants are chanting "20-18!" in Bronx at end of this century.

Guess Yankees should start Brendan Beck in Game 1 of the playoffs.

Fun story about Old Timers at SS & 2B being younger than Jeter & Roberts @Girardi_27 Another story for you & @RealMichaelKay - in ‘03 Sojo played in OTD and was activated by Yanks later in that season.

Hey @RealMichaelKay @dcone36 So with that bottom of 7th the Yankees have held opponents scoreless for the first 16 innings of a season for the first time in franchise history. They had 3 previous seasons that started with 15 scoreless innings, most recently in '51

My bad. I had missed that the 1908 opener went 12 innings. Which is how the Yankees (actually Highlanders) had an 18-inning scoreless streak that year despite giving up a run in the 7th inning of the 2nd game.

Ready for tomorrow night!

.@RealMichaelKay described today's game as “penultimate.” @dcone36 & @PaulONeillYES laughing about that. In '95 Kay asked Buck about who start in the penultimate game. “That depends,” Buck replied. “Depends on what?” Kay asked. “It depends on what penultimate means,” Buck replied

Thank you @RealMichaelKay for mentioning this on air today.

To all the Mets fans who reveled in the the 5th inning of Game 5 of the World Series last year because you hate the Yankees and enjoy their fans' pain: Karma's a bitch, ain't it.
A six-run 5th inning carries the @Marlins over the Mets.

I can tell Aaron Boone managed this game like it was a World Series game by the way he blew it

Has there ever been a T-ball coach who feels as much pressure as their coach? I doubt it.
STOP IT. Cole and Rodon’s guys are on the same t-ball team. I bet they could beat the Rockies. 😭 #repbx Per @AshleyRodon

$1 million for four-days work. Ottavino's better paid that Soto!
Prior to today’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: •Reinstated RHP Devin Williams (#38) from the paternity list. •Designated RHP Adam Ottavino for assignment.

The one barrier preventing me from playing for the Yanks is lifted. That and the fact that I'm 64 years old and not talented enough to play on my over-30 yr old men's slow pitch softball team. But it does open up me being manager. Except they just gave Boone an extension. Oh well
Statement from Yankees Managing General Partner Hal Steinbrenner on the alteration of Yankees facial hair policy:

So Bellinger is the 12th former MVP in the divisional play period to join the Yankees after winning the award. How many can you name? How many won an MVP with the Yankees? And this doesn’t count the one Yankee who went on to win an MVP after leaving The Bronx. Who was that?

One more weird fact from last night: The two most significant, game- and World Series-changing soft grounders to first base in the history of the fall classic were both hit by guys named Mookie. And according to Baseball Reference they are the only two Mookies in MLB history.

Love. This. Including postseason Volpe has now passed Jeter in career grand slams, w 2.
One of the people in this photo has hit a grand slam in the World Series

Hate, hate, HATE turning to ‘04 ALCS for hope. But there’s a now famous interview that Millar's did with the Shaughnessy before Game 4 that holds true. He said "Don't let us win today. If we win today, we have Pete (Pedro) tomorrow, Schill game 6. Game 7 anything can happen." 1/2

2/2 So we win today vs bullpen game by LA & we have Cole tomorrow, hopefully a better version of Rodon, who has been back-and-forth this postseason and is maybe due for a good game in Game 6. Then anything can happen in Game 7. Not predicting. But won't be shocked if win next 4.

FWIW Reggie was 4-for-25 (.160 BA), all singles after 5-gm ALCS & 1st 3 games of ‘77 WS. You can argue Judge so far this postseason is doing better than Reggie was those 8 games. Then he went 7-for-11 in last 3 games w 5 HRs and a double. And no one remembers first 8 games.
