📺🏴 How did Wales go from a resounding “No” to devolution in 1979 to a “Yes” in 1997?
John Osmond, author of ‘Soul on Fire’, joins Siôn Jobbins on @RadioYesCymru to discuss the road to winning our Senedd, the national movement’s future and his journey from Abergavenny boy to Welsh nationalist.

Ar y diwrnod hwn ym 1965, agorwyd cronfa ddŵr Llyn Celyn yn swyddogol, yn dilyn boddi Capel Celyn, pentref Cymraeg ei iaith ger y Bala, er mwyn cyflenwi dŵr i Lerpwl.
Aeth y cynllun yn ei flaen er gwaethaf gwrthwynebiad aruthrol ledled Cymru, heb i'r un Aelod Seneddol o Gymru bleidleisio o'i blaid. Anwybyddwyd llais cenedl gyfan.
Mae Tryweryn yn parhau i fod yn atgof poenus o'r hyn sy'n digwydd pan wneir penderfyniadau am Gymru o'r tu allan heb wrando ar lais ei phobl.

On this day in 1965, Llyn Celyn reservoir was officially inaugurated, following the flooding of Capel Celyn, a Welsh-speaking village near Bala, to supply water to Liverpool.
The project went ahead despite overwhelming opposition across Wales, with not a single Welsh MP voting in favour. The voice of an entire nation ignored.
Tryweryn remains a painful reminder of what happens when decisions about Wales are made from outside Wales without the consent of its people.
Be the generation that leads Wales to independence! 🏴

Mae San Steffan wedi gwthio ein cenedl i’r cyrion ac achosi dirywiad economaidd ers llawer rhy hir.
Mae’r dyfodol yn glir: annibyniaeth er mwyn adeiladu gwlad decach a chyfoethocach a fydd yn ffynnu ar lwyfan y byd.
Dyma ein hamser ni! 🏴

“Wales has an equivalent mechanism – section 109 of the Government of Wales Act 2006. It has never been used to lift the reservation protecting the union of the nations of Wales and England. In September, the Senedd (Welsh parliament) backed a motion asserting Wales’s right to hold a referendum. But a motion settles nothing.”

A former Lord Chief Justice has said there are ‘no arguments of substance’ against devolving justice and policing to Wales, suggesting resistance stems from a reluctance to diminish the role of MPs in London wp.me/p8Mk4U-1vgC
“You can tell the economic character of a nation by the way its infrastructure works.”
Powerful words from George Monbiot on BBC Question Time explaining how Wales’s economy was built to extract wealth rather than enrich its own people, and why we need the powers to put that right.

🏴 Today is Diwrnod Shwmae / Su’mae, a day to celebrate the Welsh language and encourage everyone to give it a go!
Whether you speak Welsh, know just a few words, are learning or have never spoken a word of Cymraeg, why not give it a go today?
A simple ‘Shwmae!’ (Hello) is a great place to start! 😀
