#InTheNews: The day we’ve been waiting for! New legislation is being brought to Parliament to increase the age of sale for tobacco to help create the first-ever #SmokefreeGeneration across the UK. Together, this is what we’ve been campaigning for and we urge all MPs to vote in favour. You can show your support by emailing your MP: action.cancerresearchuk.org/…

For my generation fear of cancer was much more reasonable than it now is - as early diagnosis and improved prognoses make presenting symptoms early is just common sense self care
Spotting cancer early can make a real difference. Talk to your doctor if you notice anything that’s not normal for you, or isn’t going away. 🔁 RT this to help us spread awareness.

Very proud to be at the launch of @CR_UK #ManifestoForCancer at Francis Crick Institute. A roadmap for the future of cancer care and outcomes for the UK. All we need now is a #government bold and strong enough to implement it #LongerBetterLives #ResearchIsWhereHopeStarts

Less smoke, more life
Are you prepared to make step changes in preventing disease @SteveBarclay @RishiSunak? Since smoking is the biggest preventable cause of cancer and death in UK and cost to public finances was £20.6 billion in 2022… a good place to focus more action? #SmokefreeUK @CRUK_Policy

Most people who smoke want to quit, but they need support to do so. That’s why @CR_UK and others are at Westminster to call on the UK Government to take action today

1/We need more funding for tobacco control. But we’re still waiting for UK Govt to act. A ‘polluter pays’ fund would make tobacco companies – not the taxpayer – pay for this. And MPs from all political parties want a fund introduced. Want to see change?bit.ly/SignSmokefreeUKPetiti…

There are no silver bullets to address enormous harms caused by tobacco. However a 'polluter pays' fund, popular with the public, has support from MPs on all sides, paid for by tobacco industry, not the taxpayer...sounds like a good idea @Jeremy_Hunt @SteveBarclay #SmokefreeUK 👇
