I am so proud to be a part of what we have been building over here at @ourcitysc this season. We have established a proven pathway and our players and families have been immense in achieving it. I am looking forward to what’s yet to come!
"Growth isn't comfortable." I love that mentality. The most growth takes place in the zone of proximal development, teetering on the edge of failure and success. Without proper mentorship and courage to succeed in the face of failure, we don't grow efficiently.
I never thought I'd write a book.
For years, people kept asking me to co-author something.
That sounded perfect. All I had to do was sit on a porch, tell some stories, and let a real writer do all the work.
My friend Jon Gordon had other plans.
After reading my co-authored manuscript, he looked me straight in the eye and said, "Clint, you need to write your own book."
"I'm not a writer, Jon."
"You're afraid to write your own book."
Well, that did it. The 12-year-old in me showed up real quick. "I'm not afraid of anything."
Nine months later, "Hurdle-isms" was born.
Those nine months were brutal. There were days I hated writing. Days I wanted to quit. Days I stared at a blank page for hours.
But something magical happened in that struggle. Pulling out old journals from Colorado and Pittsburgh. Remembering conversations with players who changed my life as much as I changed theirs.
Here's what I learned writing my book: Growth isn't comfortable. It's not supposed to be.
The best things that have happened in my life came from doing things I didn't think I could do.
Yo @ChickfilA, what does my friend do with this many points? Can he redeem them all at once or is it only one item per order?
It’s fascinating to think about how manufacturers forgot to give most of their buyers some wins to keep them hooked, otherwise they run the risk of losing them. Case in point, me. I haven’t bought a new box to open (outside of Pokemon) in years because of cost/return. It stinks.
Everything I'm seeing about Topps Heritage football is the same... and it points to one fundamental problem with the current market and the <drip> of supply from the manufacturer in order to control higher box prices:
You can't produce more AND raise prices and expect a product like this to work.
This is what Panini did to retail starting in 2021 and it caused a large part of the post-COVID crash and is why things like Prizm retail (even from the licensed era) sit on shelves today when they were once the hottest product to rip.
Yes, demand is higher.
As a manufacturer, for SUSTAINABLE growth, you still need to realize that you get to pull 1 lever, not both levers, in order to raise your bottom line.
Pulling both levers risks imploding the shaky ground collectibles are built on and producing Beanie Babies 2.0.

#OTD in 1972, Jack Roosevelt Robinson passed away at the age of 53. It goes without saying that he was one of the most important figures in the history of baseball, let alone this country. Here’s my painting of him stealing home against the Phillies at Shibe Park, July 2, 1950.

Over 2,500 games from the dugout. 50+ years in baseball. 17 as an MLB manager.
I won Manager of the Year and also lost more games than I want to count.
I led teams through losing seasons and took a team to the World Series.
If I could go back to my first day as a leader, here are the 5 lessons I'd whisper in my own ear:
Lesson 1: Be a window when it's good, a mirror when it's bad.
The leaders I respected most shared every win and absorbed every hit.
What this looks like in practice:
• Wins: name the people who made it happen
• Losses: say "that's on me" before anyone asks
• Locker room: spotlight the effort before the outcome
Your team will fight harder for a leader who deflects credit and absorbs blame.
Lesson 2: Nobody hands you trust. You earn it before you coach it.
Early in my career, plenty of coaches tried to fix my swing.
I tuned out every one I didn't trust.
Get to know your people before you try to develop them.
Their hobbies, their family, what makes them tick.
Then the coaching lands.
Lesson 3: Shower well after every loss.
After a losing streak in Colorado, our team president asked me how I kept the clubhouse together.
This was my rule:
• Self-evaluate honestly, were we prepared, did we execute?
• Shower well, wash off the grit, grime, and angst before you walk out
• Be present for whoever you're going home to
Tomorrow is a new opportunity. Don't drag yesterday into it.
Lesson 4: Lead transformationally, not transactionally.
Transactional leaders ask: what can this person do for me?
Transformational leaders ask: how do I put this person in a position to win?
The first builds compliance.
The second builds careers.
When your people start chasing growth instead of your approval, you've crossed over.
Lesson 5: Stay humble before life humbles you.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who are humble, and those who are about to be.
Discipline keeps you in the first group:
Skill gets you in the room. Humility keeps you there.
50 years taught me leadership isn't about you.
It's about the people you serve.

The @UPS experience.
- Sig Required, scheduled hold at UPS Store
- 3 charges on cc, no other confirmation
- Call ups and get told there's no record of hold
- They call driver to deliver after 4:00
- Driver tried to deliver at 2:30
- Repeat process until it is return to sender
Looking at the comments, I really don’t understand why some people only want perfection nowadays. If someone/company makes a mistake, to me the true measure of them is how they react in that moment. It seems like the Brewers are doing the right thing now. So what’s the issue?
We got a visit from Petey and Benny today. They both did this handstand foot rub thing. It was interesting to watch.
I was thinking about the bot farm news today and we really are stuck in the matrix on this app. Just feeding the machines that control us without us knowing, until something comes along and shines a light on them.
Does this factor into comps like shipping costs do?

I really miss going to K-mart with my dad and him letting me go into the bargain section of junk wax to pick a box out for like $10. Those cards weren't worth much but the time I spent asking him if a player was good or not and putting them into my binder got me into collecting.
Saw collectors discussing Year-over-Year print runs... what that ignores is the staircase.
2023: ~115M base cards. About 349K copies of every base card.
2024: Topps prints ~27% more (stat from @ToppsBb). The first step up.
2025: ~197M base cards. Up ~71% from 2023. The 39.8% everyone is quoting is the second step, not the first.
2026: the odds sheet is out. Hobby Gold is 1:21, vs 1:14 in 2024. By my math that’s ~205-220M base cards, the third step.
One year-over-year number reads like a spike. THREE years of them is a staircase, and it’s nearly double where it started.
