A beautiful Memorial Day at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Remembering our fallen heroes today and every day. We thank those who donned the uniform for their service. For those who did not come home, you will never be forgotten. Our freedoms remind us of your sacrifice. We honor you. 🇺🇸

God bless Foster Friess (1940-2021). R.I.P.

I got something like this once in my box of chicken nuggets I ordered at a fast food drive-thru.

Today in 1959 @ Chicago’s Comiskey Park, owner/showman Bill Veeck's newest stunt featured 3-feet/7-inch Eddie Gaedel w/3 others of near height arriving by helicopter dressed as Martians w/toy ray guns greeting White Sox players Nellie Fox & Luis Aparicio @ 2nd base. @LukeEpplin

Added note - when Jim Bunning retired, he was second in all-time career strikeouts behind Walter Johnson.

U2’s live track “Bad” from their Wide Awake in America EP. Why? Because it’s so Good...

Sept. 14, 2005. I saw/heard BEE read from Lunar Park @ Olsson’s bookstore in Washington, DC. He autographed his novel & my copies of Less Than Zero, The Rules of Attraction, American Psycho, Glamorama, & The Informers. He was gracious & kinda laughed @ my book fumbling & all...

Decontamination Aide at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Cleaned bedpans and sterilized medical equipment.

Poems by Frank Stanford from his book - The Singing Knives. Professor Ruth Doty taught from his book in a 1998 creative writing class I took @DrakeUniversity. Incidentally, Ruth Doty was once married to poet Mark Doty who won the National Book Award for Poetry in 2008.

Had a few reactions... and I wish him the best. But did he have to announce he’s going to KU on @Coach_DeVries’s birthday?

FYI - @DrakeBulldogsMB loses to USC by only 16 points in NCAA tourney. Kansas loses to USC by a whopping 34 points in NCAA tourney. Just sayin’...

It’s baseball season... Am finishing Our Team by @LukeEpplin. Story of four men - Satchel Paige, Larry Doby, Bob Feller, Bill Veeck - Cleveland Indians and the 1949 World Series - ending segregated baseball in post-WWII era. Great read.

April Fool’s Day was last Thursday. As President Biden would say, “C’mon, man!”

Interesting. Former ⁦@DrakeBulldogsMB⁩ center Liam Robbins enters the NCAA transfer portal. Maybe it’s too cold for him up there at ⁦@GopherMBB⁩.

From my random collection of stuff, here’s an 80-year old program from a Bob Feller Homecoming in Van Meter, Iowa on Oct. 2, 1941. ⁦Note addresses by Iowa Gov. Wilson & U.S. Sen. Herring. ⁦@baseballhall⁩ ⁦@Indians⁩ ⁦@LukeEpplin⁩ ⁦@GeorgeWill⁩
