Hey everyone! I haven’t posted in a while because I accepted a Professor of Speech position at Cumberland University. It has been great working with college students, but I sure miss my Professionals.
My students begin their final exams this week with their own extemporaneous speeches. Five to seven minutes on anything they choose! What do you have in your heart to share? What do you know that is worthy of being spread to a larger audience?
What class should be required in High School, but usually isn’t even offered?
I’ll start: Listening Skills

Bringing my program to Cumberland University this year has been an amazing experience. Once the students realize the importance of communication in their lives, the phones disappear!
With the iPhone 16 release coming up, I was wondering:
How many of you used to watch these events with Steve Jobs running the keynote?
What do you think made his talks so much better than the current Apple leadership?
What was the most outstanding class you have ever taken (high school, college or otherwise)? What made it so special?

Delayed in the airport…again…
I travel by plane quite often, and have noticed that since the pandemic flight delays, changes, cancellations, gate changes, crews not showing up, luggage problems, etc. have become the norm, rather than the exception.
Was I just lucky pre-pandemic to have generally problem free flights, or have you noticed a change?
Did you know that one of the biggest phobias in America is Public Speaking?
Public Speaking Anxiety (PSA) is reported in up to 30% of the general population.
